candida - has anyone got this

Has anyone had /got candida? I'm going to see a nutritionist next week to have it confrimed but finally think after a lot of visits to specialists etc, aftyer reading about it I think this is what I've got. Just wondering if anyone can throw any light on it

no sorry, but this will bump it up again. and am interested to see how it goes as I wonder whether i've got it.

I had it identified after a visit to a Kneisologist/Nutrionalist (she is qualified in both) - put me on a programe of anti-candida tablets by Biocare plus I was allergic to yeast and dairy. Had a reaction to the 'die off' effect of the candida but eventually felt 110% better with actually some energy lol! and have not had PMT since (had it horrendously since the age of 13) I was 38 when I finally found out the cause. Hope you get as much relief from it as I did - why did you decide to see the Nutrionalist?

I had the highest Candida level (bar one other person) that mine had seen in the whole time of practising - thought I felt ill!

I had candida when I was about 20 - I was suffering from ME at the time and it's a common problem for ME sufferers. Such a long time ago I can't really remember what I took, but I had to be on a yeast and sugar free diet (including no fruit - fructose) for three months, then gradually reintroducing foods as I got better. I remember taking Bio Acidopholus and tons of extra vitamins and minerals in the hope that some would stay in my system, and baking soda bread. It cost my poor parents a fortune for all the tablets. It took me about a year to reach a point of full recovery - I had got down to 6 and a half stone before I was diagnosed.

About three years ago I got this horrible burning sensation , someitmes it felt like I'd been cut down there. It was particularly bad before my period. Went to GP and was prescribed antibiotics, two stes in a month and they did nothing. Husband was prescribed canesten too even though I didn't have what looked like thrush. I then went o a homeoptahic doctor three times and it got better marginally but cam back with a vengeance last summer. Went to gynocologist and a dermatologist with no joy form either but both took , God what's the word, not a swab bu you know what I mean and both said you have a high level of it wasn't yeast but something like that, but ither than that they had no idea what was wrong with me. I feel permanently tired and prementrually am just a nightmare. I was talking to a friend if a friend this weekend who's a nurse and she said I bet it's candida. I came home and looked it up and I think that is what it is , sounds like it. Can't see nutritionist until 21st April but still, can't beklieve I've spent all that money on soecialists and none of them mentioned diet, actually am really annoyed at myself that it didn't occur to me. Yes I def. have it. Saw a nutritionalist last week and I did a questionnaire and scored very high. I have had thrush off and on for about 7 years now and lots of other symptoms too.
There was a small piece in the NOTW Sunday mag yesterday about a product you can buy. I think I may buy some. Just can't remember the name off of the top of my head.

The only note of caution I'd sound about being diagnosed with candida is that the symptoms are so wide-ranging practically anyone could think they have it. Dh was diagnosed with it - when we turned up in Holland & Barrett with a list of supplements to buy the bloke behind the counter said "oh right, bet you've just come from such-and-such" (acupuncturist and general holistic woman in our town).

I did some research online and there is quite of a scepticism about it out there.

I'm certainly not disputing anyone who felt better when they followed a yeast- and sugar-free diet, just that candida overgrowth is a very popular theory just now. The book we were recommended was "Beat Candida Through Diet", it's pretty comprehensive and worth borrowing from your library - but as I say, do your own research as well.

I asked my gp about it, i get what looks like thrush without the itching, feel tired, headaches and the most horrendous pmt. She gave me pessaries and said that it's a bit of a myth about candida.What i have read about it certainly sounds like me though.

I only have soya milk now. Yeast free bread from the Health food shop if I am feeling rich!

Agree that it is hard to conventionally 'prove' Candida and had it diagnosed first in my 5 year old dd - who had been sufferering with Thrush for ages - stopped when she came of dairy and yeast. I read into Candida (fully, like you do!) and started to think, I have ALL of those symptoms - then started to feel like a hypocondriac because of it lol! Booked in to see same Kneisologist myself and came away with the dignosis of chronic Candida and Dairy and Yeast allergy, which I have avoided ever since (Thrush comes back if I do have it)

Don't think my 5 year old was reacting to anything other than a correct diagnosis and my PMT was NOT a figment of my imagination - I could not believe that I would no longer suffer the terrible Breast pain that I suffered for 2 weeks out of every 4 anymore. The difference has been life changing for both of us - my dd is now 10 and still avoids yeast and dairy and is very healthy

I had it really badly when I had glandular fever. Virtually my whole body was possessed by the stuff - awful.
I cut down on bread, alcohol, sugary foods, cheese & very processed foods, ate loads of garlic, took acidophilus supplements, aloe vera juice & ate loads of yoghurt & it made a huge difference.
Candida thrives on sugar & yeast - so knock those on the head & the stuff will die off anyway.

And expect to feel worse before you feel better as your body washes out the toxins - I was mega ill for the first two weeks on my sugar/yeast free diet - which means it was working!!

Oh, and I remember i used to drink a lot of goats milk - got quite attached to it! Tastes much better than soya milk IMO and I bought it in my local Tescos.

just found this thread and am extremely interested. I have suffered with nausea and headaches for last two years, thrush and fungal nail infections for 8 years now, I crave sugar and bread , and feel so tired. I have been attending GP since the nausea started, and I have had umpteen scans and blood tests, but nothing shows up. I am sure GP thinks I am hypochondriac. Does this sound like candida? I would like to research the subject if anyone can advise any good reading material or websites.

It really does sound like a very bad overgrowth of Candida esp with the fungal infections, and cravings for bread (it thrives on yeast!) and sugar. Try and find a recommended Knesiologist and or Nutritionalist who could prescribe Biocare products

I think you will see by reading it that you do have it! You feel awful at first when you go through the 'die off' stage where it is being killed by the tablets and change of diet, I drank gallons of water a day as I craved it, guess it was probably helping to flush it all out?

Thanks for the quick reply. Can you slowly re-introduce sugar and yeast to your diest after die-off? and if so, whats the chances of candida rearing its ugly head again?

When I went to the Kneisologist she said it was the worse case bar one that she had seen in all her time of practicing, and that because of that I would always probably be prone to it as Candida would take a foothold whenever it got the chance again.

You may actually have an allergy to yeast and other foods which may mean cutting them out permanently (I have with Yeast and Dairy). If I have them the Yeast prob reappears immediately.

It sounds like your case MAY be worse than mine (I am no expert) as you have the fungal infection on your nails too - I went and found a link to a book that someone recommended to me,

At my first colonic session my therapist said she could see signs of candida, the second session she said it was a definate!

I saw my GP yesterday and mentionned it tp him, so he has given me Nystatin tablets for 2 weeks. My therapist says see her in a week and she can start to get rid of the dead cells.

I also have bronchial pneumonia and Strep B, feeling great -not!

Your Doc may not be receiptive to the idea of Candida - I don't think conventional medicine does - why do you think you have it?

I have mentioned it to my doctor before but he seemed to fob me off a bit.

I suffer from many of the symptoms, mainly fungal infections!

had lots of good info on ridding Candida - supplements and diet changes. Imho Doctors have a limited number of options to help and they simply don't recognise Candida as a condition

It's so weird I was only looking up Candida on the net this morning, and people are discussing it on here!!

It's really interesting reading other peoples problems with this condition. It's really been getting me down, it makes me feel dirty. But I think to myself - I'm a clean person though!!!

I'll be determined to cut out yeasty foods, but I do love these foods! Or is it the candida that loves these foods?????

The Candida gives you cravings for yeasty foods - and sugary foods - it feeds off it and makes you crave it because of it, its not nice to have Thrush etc like you say and it may take extreme measures - diet changes and supplements to rid yourself of it, imagine how you will feel once its gone!!!
