Im currently opn propanalol 80 mgs a day but my gp decided today to put me on an ace inhibitor alongside this as my reading on monday was 200/123 ! My head feels fuzzy and ive had a dull headache for 3 days now-fell sick and eyes hurt.
Im on a night shift thursday and need to be very alert and on the ball iykwim and would like some reassurrance that im going to feel ok on these ace inhibitors .
When you went on them did they make you feel anything straight away or should i not worry and just get on to work ?
Thanks x

bumping for you

hopefully the inhibitors will bring your BP down and you'll feel better, offsetting any side effects. Didn't the GP tell you what they might be?

Thanks-no he rang me this morning and said we`d try them and have a blood test in a few weeks.

Commonest side effect is a dry and irritating cough.

ACE now are recommended as first line in some instances. They are very widely prescribed.

Can be very effective, to the extent that you can get postural HYPOtension i.e. when you get up from lying down, you feel faint, so most people are started on a small dose, and then build up to the full dose gradually. It is also sometimes recommended that the dose be taken at bedtime, to reduce the likelyhood of postural hypotension (as you will be tucked up in bed for the first few hours after the dose, and by the time you get up in the morning things will be on a bit more of an even keel.

Blood test is to check renal and liver function.

The rare and serious effects of ACE-i are renal and liver impairment.

My Dad takes them, and has had no problems from the beginning - but he is on a fairly small dose. And I can't remember which one, sorry.

Either way, your bp was high so am glad you're getting it treated!

I have taken them (Captopril) post partum and remember the spaced out/muzzy feeling. It usually lasts for a short while until you body adjusts to it in your system

My son takes Enalapril but he is only 7. He has never had side effects and is on the max dose for his weight.

mustn't get pregnant while taking it.

I had a very nasty reaction last february from ace inhibitors. I had only been taking them for 4 weeks, I was on 1.25 mg of ramipril, I am still having problems even now. My GP has had to report it to the manufacturer as it was so severe.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/02/2009 18:48

My dd takes lisinopril - has been fine on this one but had the cough when on Captopril.

My dad is on Ramipril and seems fine although does suffer with the cold more than he used to. If it doesn't settle maybe it's worth changing to another drug. Have they adjusted your propanalol at all.
