I had strange stabbing pains in my chest a while ago, they started not long after a cold/cough. My doctor after examining me said it was Tietzes syndrome

does it hurt when you breathe... I had awful chest pains after a chest infection and it turned out to be plursey!

RumMum · 10/02/2009 16:35

or you could have pulled a muscle from coughing...

candyheartsandchocolates · 10/02/2009 16:46

no it doesnt hurt to breathe and its sort of comes and goes in waves
its not a pulled muscle had one of those before
im not sure if i should go back to the gp last saw her friday b4 last
the anxious person in me thinks its something sinister though its most likely not iyswim

There's nothing that can be done for it, it just goes, i was told it could last weeks but it was probably a few months before i stopped getting the sharp pains every now and then.

If i hadn't been told what it was i would have definitely been getting myself worried like you are. Maybe go to the doctors and ask them if it could be Tietzes it'll only take a quick examination to tell.

candyheartsandchocolates · 11/02/2009 13:12

what sort of examination do they do for that?
im sure my gp thinks i make it up

They just feel your chest, oooh that doesn't sound good does it.. i mean they can tell by feeling if it hurts when pressing on the chest wall. I actually thought the pain was coming from my breasts, maybe thrush because i'm breastfeeding and it was at my post-natal check i asked about it (so i was glad it was with a lady doctor) I could tell it was actually coming from my chest wall and not my breasts when the doctor pressed on it.

Hi there, if it is Tietzes then anti-inflammatories will be recommended to you for a while. It does go away, I had it for a while and the doc suggested Nurofen.

candyheartsandchocolates · 11/02/2009 20:38

sleeps that how it feels to me like its coming from my boobs
im going take it that it is that and take nurofen and hope it goes off but if its really troublesom than i will go to gp
thankyou for all your reply's
