Nightmare teething

DS (one last weekend) seems to be cutting most of his remaining 13 teeth this weekend. His gums are swollen, his cheeks are red, his nappies are surprising and at 4am this morning, his temperature was 40.9 and he was shivering. He was sick during his tea last night too, then just looked thoroughly miserable.

Can teeth really do such horrible things to a baby? I just want my happy boy back

Do your babies have horrible trouble cutting teeth? Or do you think there's something else wrong with DS? He's just got over an ear infection and conjunctivitis too - poor baby. The temperature's the thing that's really worried me - it was 37.8 when he went to bed tonight, thank goodness.

I am absolutely no expert (5 month old ds, my first) but when I took him to the doctor last week with vomiting and temperature she told me that teething definitely does not cause a high temperature or sickness but can cause dodgy nappies. Other people have told me different though so not sure what to believe.

Lower temp tonight sounds positive though, hope all is ok.

Thanks Docket - I'd heard the same about teething not causing a temperature (have also read that it doesn't hurt, but seeing the state of DS's gums atm, I don't believe that!). Oh, who knows what to believe?! Hard work this baby-raising!

Teething shouldn't cause a temperature. Poor DS, take him to the docs and see if there is anything they can find.

Have you got any Anbesol for his teeth? It works absolute wonders.

hunkermunker · 09/04/2005 21:14

If his temperature rockets again, he's definitely going to the doc. Poor baby - he's been very cuddly the last couple of days too.

Have got anbesol, teething powders, dentinox, nurofen for children and medised. He's had all of them over the last couple of days (in safe doses, don't worry!)!

sounds like it could be his ears

hunkermunker · 09/04/2005 21:38

He had an ear infection a couple of weeks ago - he's had amoxycillin. When he had that, he kept tugging his ears - he's not really been doing that now, but if he's no better tomorrow, he'll see the doc again

ds had an ear infection and it took 3 lots of antibiotics to get rid of it - poor little mite - he was miserable for weeks. Its one of those things that isnt always obvious but causes other stuff like sickness etc.

Hope he gets better soon

has anyone found nurofen doesn't ease the pain of their LO's teething?
