Does anyone use St. John's Wort? Does it work for you?

I have just started SJW for mild "feeling down", a bit low and tearful at times.

It's definitely not bad enough to see my GP for anything stronnger, so thought I would give it a try but am unsure if it mostly has a placebo effect.

Any experiences ?

I've found it works for me. Reduces my anxiety to a manageable level, without affecting my other brain processes.

Look at the strength though, because some have a much lower level of the active ingredient than others...

do you know what strength it should be mary?

The one I use (Superdrug's own brand) contains 340mg per tablet (once a day), which equates to 1000 micrograms of Hypericin. That is the sort of strength I believe you should be looking at (based on what I've read on the subject).

St Johns Wort is good and it does work but I find the supplement 5HTP works better, for me anyway. I can highly recommend it if you find the St Johns doesn't work for you.

Just to add, please be aware that it can interfere with the contraceptive pill - might make it less effective. Otherwise, good stuff.
