Mirena Coil and Sleeplessness - Help!

I had a Mirena fitted a year ago exactly. Very painful fitting because Dr pulled 1st one out by mistake so had to fit a 2nd. Anyway, took months to settle down with lots of stomach pains. periods graduallly got lighter & lighter & now don't have a bleed at all. That sounds OK - right? But I've become very tearful over the past 6 months & in the last 2 months I've suddenly started having terrible problems getting to sleep at night. Still awake at 3am sometimes! And believe me I AM TIRED! I'm a full time working mum with stressful job & travel good distance to work, so no reason not to be completely knackered at the end of the day!!
I'm considering have the coil removed. I feel so different to how I used to, that I'm sure it's all related. Only thing is because I've had the coil for a year already my "logical" brain is telling me that surely I would've had the side effects right at the beginning & not after a year.
I would try anything for a good night's sleep at this point! Has anyone else sufferend similar side effects? My Dr tells me it can't be related to the coil. but I'm not convinced. I really don't want to go on sleeping pills so even going back to the pill or trying copper coil would be better than this. HELP! Thanks!

I had side-effects for the entire three and half years I had mine. Mostly it was "just" weight gain, sluggish bowel and sore nobly breasts all the time. I just think that some of us are not good with hormonal contraception (I feel even worse on the Pill).

thanks for replying so quickly! I definitely don't want to go back on the pill because I was pretty bad on that too! Maybe you're right & the hormones don't suit!
