Has anyone had their sinuses examined with a fibre optic camera thing??????

It's just that I have a persistant post-nasal drip (nice huh!) that is resisting all attempts to cure it with medicine.

Saw the gp again this morning and he has given me another steroid nasal spray to try for a month. He said that if this doesn't cure it, then I will be referred to an ENT surgeon who will want to have a look around my sinuses with a fibre optic camera. Some sort of guided tour thing in the cavities of my head!

Has anyone else had this done, and if so, what can I expect to happen. I can't say that I'm looking forward to it.

OMG I watched a demo of a neti-pot on you-tube. I actually felt faint.

Will have to work up a lot of courage to attempt that.

giraffe - Hole in her forehead!!!!! Poor lady. Sounds terrible. No, I've not got a lump or anything.

Netti pots are brilliant - got rid of my chronic sinus problems. If I ever feel it coming on i use it twice a day, otherwise once or twice a week. It's sooo good, honest.

Eeeeeeeeek I am such a wimp that looks awful. I have also been told to try Hopi (sp?) candles but again am too scared. I think it's just the thought of potentially making it worse.
giraffe - your poor gran - mine sounds like a very minor ailment in comparison

But how do you get the water round your sinuses? It looks like the water just goes up one nostril and out the other!

I had an Endoscope passed up my nose and into my sinus,it was fine really.

Have you tried a "Dairy free" diet? I found by giving up milk etc. my PND cleared up.

Also I was a Theatre nurse for 15 years and did(assisted) loads of ENT ops,and we never drilled anyone sinus'es. maybe thats just their way of explaining it.

But I assure you that by widening the "hole" you wouldn't be aware of it,just feel the benefits after.

Insert spout of neti pot gently into the raised nostril creating a seal between the neti pot and the nostril. If it drains out of your mouth, lower your forehead in relation to your chin. Relax. If you are calm, the water flows right through. But if you aren't, it just won't flow. If you keep breathing through your mouth, relaxed, the water should gently flow through the nose on its own. There's no forcing it.

aaaaaaaaaaaaargh.....faints...thud.....

girlandboy · 07/02/2009 22:37

IF IT DRAINS OUT OF YOUR MOUTH! ARRRRGGGHHHH!

You're not really selling this to me you know.

But your snot is draining down the back of your throat at the moment...isn't it better to get it all out?

Caz10 · 07/02/2009 22:43

oooh interesting sawyer64, how is the hole widened then? It was the use of the word drilling that had me running for the hills.

Sorry girlandboy should have said that I just copied and pasted that, have no personal experience!! Sounds grim doesn't it?

girlandboy · 07/02/2009 22:43

Yes you're quite right.

Actually just had a thought.

Why don't gp's mention neti pots??

See if you have a coldy type thing do you then cough up blood in the mucus? I get this whenever I am ill. Normally its clear though. Aaah lovely saturday night topic

girlandboy · 07/02/2009 22:59

This started without my having a cold? But yes, there have been flecks of blood in the egg white!

Mind you, since the anti-biotics that has gone away. As has the green nature of the egg white. It's clear now.

Lovely!!

Usually "nibblers" are used which are scissor -like forceps that have sharp "cups " instead of blades that nibble away at the "hole" until it is bigger.

Sawyer64 · 07/02/2009 23:02

TMI?? Well you did ask!

girlandboy · 07/02/2009 23:04

Right that's it! Off to bed to hopefully not dream of nibblers, neti pots and all things nasal.

If I have nightmares then I will blame you lot.

eeeewwww at the thought of my sinus bits being nibbled!!!! Although the prospect of some relief would make you consider anything!! It does sound better than being drilled though, thank you sawyer!
