I have my mooncup but have urgent stalk question before I set forth with the loo and my scissors!!!!

First of all - I thought I'd get my stalk sorted out before my period started as i'm feeling a bit squeamish about the whole thing .

How far up do I put the mooncup and how do I know that it's in the right place?

How do I know how much stalk to cut off?
