Smelly nose

For about the last couple of years my DS4 has had smelly excretions from his nose. He doesnt have a cold just an almost permanent blocked nostril. Starting to think that it may be a dairy allergy/intolerance - cant find anything on the net accept possibility of lodged item up the nose which am sure it isnt. Has anyone had anything similar?

i took ds to the docs recently as his nose seemed permanently blocked and he sometimes laboured his breathing at night. she said he had a nose infection (i imagine from picking it too much!!!) and gave him cream. it cleared up pretty quickly.

My DD has had something similar since she was 3 - now nearly 7!!

She has had a clear discharge (runny nose) from her right nostril for years now and periodically it turns yellow or green and has a bad smell - also affects her breath poor thing!

I have taken her to GP countless times - and not once have I been given a diagnosis or a cause and I've tried everything.

She saw an ENT specialist who said she had fluid in her inner ear but not enough for a grommet and that she would grow out of it...!

She is so good about it and says it doesn?t bother her, I suppose its "normal" for her and she doesn?t know any different.
But despite me insisting she shouldn?t have to put up with it and wanting answers I haven?t got very far.

She has Flixanase spray which makes absolutely no difference no matter how religiously I administer it so the whole thing is still a mystery!

I thought it could be a dairy allergy but she doesn?t have a lot of dairy and it doesn?t seem aggravated if she has more than usual. So I?m hoping that either I come across someone who does know what it is or she will grow out of it...

Sorry I can?t help; I just thought I would post to say you are not alone!

it really sounds like the sinus infection i had.

mucus can get stuck in parts of the sinus that just can't budge. a nasal rinse would probably help but not sure how children use them.

you should get referred to an ent specialist
