Smelly nose

For about the last couple of years my DS4 has had smelly excretions from his nose. He doesnt have a cold just an almost permanent blocked nostril. Starting to think that it may be a dairy allergy/intolerance - cant find anything on the net accept possibility of lodged item up the nose which am sure it isnt. Has anyone had anything similar?

i took ds to the docs recently as his nose seemed permanently blocked and he sometimes laboured his breathing at night. she said he had a nose infection (i imagine from picking it too much!!!) and gave him cream. it cleared up pretty quickly.

have you seen the dr? could be an infection

My DD has had something similar since she was 3 - now nearly 7!!

She has had a clear discharge (runny nose) from her right nostril for years now and periodically it turns yellow or green and has a bad smell - also affects her breath poor thing!

I have taken her to GP countless times - and not once have I been given a diagnosis or a cause and I've tried everything.

She saw an ENT specialist who said she had fluid in her inner ear but not enough for a grommet and that she would grow out of it...!

She is so good about it and says it doesn?t bother her, I suppose its "normal" for her and she doesn?t know any different.
But despite me insisting she shouldn?t have to put up with it and wanting answers I haven?t got very far.

She has Flixanase spray which makes absolutely no difference no matter how religiously I administer it so the whole thing is still a mystery!

I thought it could be a dairy allergy but she doesn?t have a lot of dairy and it doesn?t seem aggravated if she has more than usual. So I?m hoping that either I come across someone who does know what it is or she will grow out of it...

it really sounds like the sinus infection i had.

mucus can get stuck in parts of the sinus that just can't budge. a nasal rinse would probably help but not sure how children use them.

you should get referred to an ent specialist
