Amitryptiline and weight gain

I'm on 10mg of ami a day to help manage the pain associated with ME. I've only been on it for 3 weeks, since being diagnosed with ME. I seem to be gaining IRO 1/2lb per day. Having already gained weight thanks to steroids, I am getting very concerned about this new weight gain. We eat a low-GI diet, and I've generally been between 7st7 and 7st10 for the last 8 years, and had risen to 7st13 by beginning of January. I am now 8st8 and rising. (I am under 5 feet, so not a skinny thing even at my lightest!)

I promise I am not eating more, or getting less exercise. 3 meals a day, snacks of fruit, etc.

Can Ami on its own have this effect?

I believe it can. Some doctors say its because the med is treating depression and therefore increasing your appetite, but this isn't so in your case (or mine, I take 20mg at night for similar, I ahve Fibromyalgia)

My MIL has just come off it (after about 6mnths) - not sure of the dosage (I think relatively small) - she experienced weight gain and wasn't eating anymore than usual. She also felt very 'out of it' for a lot of the time

Thank you all! I thought I was going mad - but I can't account for this extra weight at all.

If only it would deal with the pain, I might be able to put up with the weight! Saltire, does it help you at all with your Fibro symptoms?

Sorry to hear about your SPD, herbietea. I had it with DD2, but never so bad that I had to take anything other than codeine for it. You must be a lot of pain
