I have been awake since silly o'clock with pain from my UTI

I'm taking the antibiotics
I'm drinking like a fish (unfortunately not alcohol)
I'm generally OK(ish) during the day after about an hour or so of pain - but not today

I have terrible crampy pains in my back (right side) & now they have come round the front

I feel shaky

I can't take my normal pain killers as they make me a bit constipated & I know that won't help the UTI - and as I take painkillers most days, ordinary paracetamol don't do much any more

Basically I just wanted to whinge until the pain dies down - then I'm going back to bed

Am sorry you are feeling so awful

JackBauer · 31/01/2009 09:21

Whinge away, UTI's are horrible.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 09:23

If I had my 'normal' sympotoms it wouldn't be so bad

But I never have back pain with a UTI - at least not here & this bad

It's mid way between my spine and the edge & really crampy

That's kidney pain by the sound of it.

Perhaps you need to get some stronger a/b's, did you have pain when you saw the Dr before? Kidney infection can progress quite fast so might be worth going back.

Hope you feel better soon x

Watusi · 31/01/2009 09:32

how long have you been taking the a/b's as well?

JackBauer · 31/01/2009 09:34

I would agree with that being kidney pain, does it feel tender to touch as well? It is possible the UTI has spread to your kidney so I would go back if you can bear it.
Much, much sympathy, I had this once and couldn't move as the muscles pulled on it.

TrinityRhino · 31/01/2009 09:41

I have a friend that suffers from kidney infection alot in the late stage of prenancy due to a kidney defect type things she has anyway
I had to take her to hospital yesterday for iv fluids and large doses of iv antibiotics as the tablet antibiotics she had been given at the beginning of the week for this kidney infection had not been the correct ones

this happens as they dont know for sure which antibiotic will kill the infection

You are describing all the symptoms of a kidney infection you need to see your gp

Hope you feel better soon

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 12:11

It is tender to touch - But I just slept for an hour plus so it's not that bad iyswim

I didn't see a GP, I saw a Nurse Practitioner at a Walk-in centre (Actually I trust Nurses more than Dr's generally) - But I did go in saying I had a UTI, so maybe I was wrong to do that

Watusi · 31/01/2009 12:31

Katymac sorry pet, i think you need to go back - you can't muck about with a kidney infection.
Hope you can see someone today. am worrying about you

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 12:50

I rang NHS direct
They are getting a GP to ring me

They took it really seriously

OP posts:
Watusi · 31/01/2009 12:52

Try not to worry. I just mean you need to get proper treatment of it might get worse. I don't think you are about to die or anything

Hot water bottle might ease the pain btw.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 12:54

No - I'm sad because I'm supposed to be at the theatre tonight - I need to leave at 4:30, should I cancel? So someone else can use the ticket

I don't have much faith in them getting back to me quickly do I?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 31/01/2009 13:25

Dr phoned & is sending me off to the local hospital....after I have done a wee

OP posts:
Watusi · 31/01/2009 13:52

I'm glad they phoned, that's good - I expect you will be able to go out later. Usually get seen quickish with the OOH here, it's not like A&E iyswim.

Let us know how you get on, keeping fingers crossed it's just more a/b's and you feel well enough to go out.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 31/01/2009 14:06

could it be a kidney stone on the move?

JackBauer · 31/01/2009 14:12

Glad you called them. Kidney infections aren't that serious but they flare up fast and get worse very quickly.
Once you start on proper ab's then you shoudl start feeling a lot better.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 16:12

It's my Gall Bladder probably stones......he said I was fat

I know nothing about my gall Bladder - I guess I need to google

He gave me much stronger A/Bs and I'm not going out tonight, my Temp is 39.something & I feel very rough

OP posts:
KatyMac · 31/01/2009 16:32

I just checked my BMI....24.2

I don't think that is fat

OP posts:
Watusi · 31/01/2009 17:15

Golly!!

Poor, poor Katymac.
I'm really glad you were seen then, poor thing. Did they say when you could expect to feel better?

Fwiw I researched this a few weeks ago when I had a pulled muscle (or was it a bruised rib?) in my side. Lots of people know about gallbladders on here - you need to start a thread about it specifically. Everyone was telling me I had gallstones but I wasn't poorly and the Dr said it wasn't a systemic thing like that.

I will try to find the thread for you, feel better soon pet xxx

(ps no, 24 not fat imo)

Watusi · 31/01/2009 17:18

Here you go, if you feel up to reading.

Get some rest now dear.

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:19

Well I still have the UTI & 7 days of AB
Plus a possible infection in my gall bladder 'round the stones' the ABs will help that too

Oh & I need to see my GP early in the week to have it monitored

And I am NOT FAT

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:20

Are you sure it's not appendicitis?

He's naughty to diagnose gall stones without blood tests and scans.

Watusi · 31/01/2009 17:21

Did they scan you to check there were actual stones there?

You're not even overweight according to anything anywhere about BMI's

Silly sod of a Dr

KatyMac · 31/01/2009 17:22

He spent quite time prodding my tummy (my tummy didn't like it much)

I guess it could be my appendix - who knows - my mums appendix was in the wrong place & exploded

OP posts:
scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:27

Maybe it's best to pop to A&E if it could be your appendix. There may be a genetic reason why it isn't where it should be. Appendicitis does start around the back then moves to the front, that's why I asked. Let them check you over, the doctor shouldn't diagnose gall stones without blood tests etc. They can tell with a blood test as the bilirubin levels will be elevated.
