I have broken my arm! And alone with 2 young kids

Hi. I broke my arm on Monday, an "avulsed fracture of the humerus" - basically a bit of bone or tendon tore away at the top of my arm, near the shoulder, and pulled some bone away with it! Lovely.

Tips of any kind would be welcome, from coping with the kids, to complementary medicine ideas.

At the moment it's just a sling and ibuprofen!

Any ideas or advice?

Thanks!

Have they not repaired the tendon and put it back?

Very, very painful. Poor you!

Hi. Thanks, both of you, for your replies.I had an appointment with the fracture clinic today, and the doctor seemed confident that it will most likely repair itself. It's thankfully only a small avulsion, and a small fracture.

He said I would probably only need to keep using the sling for a further two weeks, and that I should take it out of the sling now and then, do very gentle exercises like rotating my shoulder, but also to use my hand and lower arm whenever it's comfortable to do so.

It is not causing me massive amounts of pain, when in the sling. but if I take it off to do something it's easy to forget how vulnerable it is, and move it too much. that's when it hurts! And then some!

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Keep up the pain killers.

Incidentally, how did it happen?
