Ovulation pains? Post-smear pains?

Am on Day 12 of cycle and yesterday I started to get the 'egg white' discharge that means ovulation is on its way. Yesterday and today I've had a constant mild period-like pain - is that too early to be ovulation pain? (and does ovulation pain feel like period pain?) I think ovulation should still be a day or 2 away so isn't it too early to be that? And it shouldn't last for 48 hours or more, should it? I have had a bit of ovulation pain in the past but that was always much further on in my cycle and it only lasted for an hour or so. I had a smear test 2 days before I started to get this pain - could that be anything to do with it? I'd have thought that any pain from a smear test would be fairly instant, not delayed.

This happened once before and I saw my GP who said not to worry if the pain didn't last long and wasn't strong enough to take painkillers - but now it is lasting a long time and it is bad enough for painkillers. I suppose I should go back to the doctor but I have a complete dread of anything being investigated in that department!!

Anybody like to reassure me that this is normal?!

If it is bad enough for painkillers I think you should see a doctor. I have ovulation pains that tend to last around 3-4 days but they are only niggly, I don't need to take anything for it.

Do they feel like period pains, forever? When I say I take painkillers, I am a bit of a baby - it's not that bad

They do feel like mild period pains. Some months they last for a few days, some months it lasts right from ovulation until after my period and some months it just lasts a day.

I also get ovualtion pains, it's usually only a bit niggly/crampy, like your period's about to arrive. Occassionally I would get quite bad ones that have me doubled over saying ooch. They don't last long though and are usally found only on one side, whatever side I'm ovualting from that month.

Had my smear last week and I only felt a bit achy until that night.
