Sorry TMI - how much poo is enough for a stool sample?

After a couple of days of persuasion, I've finally managed to get a sample from ds2 (4) - but how much is enough?

We were given a smallish test tube and the lid had a little spoon attached - I'd say there is about a teaspoonful in there. Is that enough?

The test form says test for "faecal elastus and [can't read the next word but looks like] triducing substances" [I'm sure that's wrong but that's what it looks like] - in case that matters ....

Sounds about right, they dont need too much to do the tests.

Just get it back to the GPs pronto !

Try for an inch. The more they have the better.

loobeylou · 20/01/2009 18:03

yuk, been there done that - lots of times, and yes, they only need a tiny bit

if i recall correctly I think its transducing not triducing

wuglet · 20/01/2009 18:06

Will be faecal elastase and reducing substances.

Do they think he is not absorbing properly?

Enough to cover the spade thing is plenty.

Yes wuglet, he's having blood tests for coeliac disease too though at the moment we're hoping maybe toddler diarrhoea rather than anything too serious ...

there are different test and from different places you must make sure you have enough i used 1 that had me dip a brush in it and another had the spoon and cup had a line to fill to. Sad about 2 spoonfuls if your smart enough to put a letter in here .Then just in search above type name of test and where it is from like this "how to use cardinal health stool sample kit. you should get there website with correct way to use it so you dont have to do again.
