low blood pressure

Blood pressure is a mystery to me. All I know is that high bp is bad and linked to things like strokes. I am 7 weeks pg & had appt w. doc. Nurse took bp & said was low in a 'hmmmmm' type way - can't remember exactly - 90/60?

Nearly all of my family have problems with high bp & have to take medication to control it - my mum aunty & grandma.

Is low bp bad or something to worry about? what does it mean? Apart from getting myself stressed to the hilt every day - not too difficult for me! is there anything else I can/should do?
I forgot to ask the doc & I don't go back for 4 weeks, so wondered if you lot could help?

Low Blood pressure can cause you to have dizzy spells, faint, feel nausious(sp?) etc.... very much like you'll probably feel in early pregnancy anyway! My friend is pregnant and she went to docs in panic coz she nearly fainted in the shower. He said that her BP was low and she was to avoid very hot baths/showers and to try to sleep on her side.

I don't really know what causes it though, but HTH.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. Some people just have lower than average blood pressure. The nurse will just have made a comment because it is not the 'norm' but it is not abnormal IYKWIM.
Forhet about it. Congratulations also

monkey, congrats. I am also about 7 weeks pregnant and have low bp. I have always got fairly low bp (approx. 110/70 ) and have noticed a drop since becoming pregnant - on average around 100/60. It happened with my last pregnancy as well. As mears has already said, unless it falls really really low it is not a problem. It is much worse if it were a lot higher than normal. Just watch out for feeling faint and as already said, be careful with hot baths and showers. Also, watch out if you are bending over for a long time (eg. cleaning kitchen floor) as when you stand up again you can feel very dizzy - I fell over yesterday after losing my balance doing this!!
