spotty skin, almost like when i was a teen

over the last year my skin has really become more pitted and i have lumps under my skin. They are small white spots and some blackheads. I am now 40, and my skin just looks bad, like it did when i was a teenager. I have been keeping up a good skin routine, well for the last 2 weeks anyway! Yet these spots are not going to shift.

I had a 'go' at them about 2 weeks ago and just made it worse, i know you shouldn't, so will not be doing that again. The nice lady at the clarins counter gave me some samples of toner cleanser etc.., but the horrible things are not going anywhere.

Is it hormones?

I have same prob - get your GP to prescribe Retin-A cream. It can make you peel a bit but basically works. I don't recommend faffing around for ages with antibiotics, which ime aren't really effective and can make you feel sick.

Its all that wine your drinking lol.

Sounds like your hormones are playing up, maybe a wee trip to the docs or if not that bad try an acne cream with benzoyl peroxide in it like this

I think it probably is hormones.

I started getting very spotty at around 42, always around the nose/chin area. And for the first time in my life I have developed greasy hair too (I sound a real looker don't I!)

Diet helps a bit, I also take a vitamin c and zinc tablet (when I remember to that is)

piratecat · 15/01/2009 14:02

vits and zinc. and cream.
okey dokey!!

the nice clarins lady did say pop back whenyou have time, and we can see what's happening with your skin.

yes and armed with about 60 quid no doubt. I don't like this skin, it's not mine iyswim!!

god this 40 business is taking it's toll!!

Do you drink enough water and get enough sleep (do any of us? LOL), I find both of those massively affect my skin.

piratecat · 15/01/2009 14:14

no to the water most prob.

yes to the sleep.

my face arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i was looking at my mother's lines, thinking, my skin is going that way.

oh and did i say i was 40

there is something you can buy over the counter - benzoyl peroxide... you need to get the lowest dose poss, and put on once daily - it does cause some redness and dryness but if you persevere with it ,it can work very well.
