TMI - Ingrowing pubic hair - I think!

Sorry about the TMI but I have a lump that has come up in my pubic hair area. It is like a boil and is really red and sore. I squeezed it and loads of pus and blood came out of it. Despite this there is still a hard lump underneath.

Does it sound like an ingrowing hair or a boil or maybe something else? Sorry being a bit paranoid now, I am a terrible hypochondriac!

Should I go and see GP or will does anyone know of a way to get rid?

Many thanks.

It sounds like an infection of the hair follicle, otherwise called "boil". It happens with ingrown pubic hair.

You will probably need to pop it again tomorrow. It would help to put on some disinfectant now, and then again the next time you squeeze it.

Thanks cotedazur, I will try it again tomorrow. It is really hard underneath and looks bruised too.

thanks sleepcat I have just had a bath and have had a squeeze, nothing much coming out anymore. Loads came out in the beginning, but just a hard lump underneath now.

Don't like the idea of going to the docs, what would she do? What is lancing?

I've had similar a few times before. Usually after the contents (to put it politely) had come out there was still a bit of a lump but then healed quite quickly, pretty much in the same way that a large spot would. I'd go to the gp in a few days if no better. Put some tcp on it though

Get it seen if no improvement in a few days.

I left mine (well kept squeezing it but didn't seek any professional help) for 8 months and now I'm waiting for a minor op to have it removed - it's 3cms by 1cm long.

PottyCock · 13/01/2009 21:22

I should name change for this but can't be arsed.

I had one of these while on a gap year in a foreign country years ago-I squeezed and rather than coming out all the stuff seemed to burst out the wrong way (deeper into the skin iyswim -sorry ttttmi, I know!). I actually ended up with something that didn't heal for ages and a hard lump that took yonks to go away (and which flared up again a couple of times before it did finally disappear). I would honestly get thee to a doctor rather than try tackle it yourself, having been on the end of a kind of 'home treatment gone wrong' nightmare!!

girlandboy · 13/01/2009 21:25

Had similar, though after some mega squeezing of blood, pus and clear fluid it went "boing" and the longest hair sprang out! It had obviously been coiled in there under the skin, but stuck!

It left quite a hole in the skin and took a few weeks for the skin to go back to normal.

oh dear, I think I had best stop prodding and poking, it looks pretty nasty now, so bit embarrased about going to the doc as she will know what I have done!!

WTMI but I am really fair down below so can't really see the hair. Sorry you probably didn't need to know that!

I bet it is really satisfying when the hair pings out though!!

NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH

was feeling brave so a bit of image googling produces this

nasty but definately not rude photo and description

FromGirders · 13/01/2009 21:59

Eww, eww, EEWWWWW!
Why did I click on that!!

differentID · 13/01/2009 22:01

what the hell did you google??????????????????????

blushingm · 13/01/2009 22:03

omg are you suggesting her ladygarden will end up like that? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

charlotteolivia · 13/01/2009 22:07

i google ingrown hair, to see what other remedies people have done, and this image came up!
i think the photo was faked, and that it was on a 'photshopped or not' forum. will check...
im sure SH27's lady garden will be fiiiiiinnnnne!

charlotteolivia · 13/01/2009 22:09

yes. it was faked. well, the story about an ingrowing hair was. the photo is probably real, from an accident or something. if you have a strong stomach though, click on the next/previous couple of photos as it is like an online album...some of the photoshopping going on is just plain weird.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/01/2009 22:09

oh fuvk -have you looked st the rest of the photos? they are all fakes but oh my god - the nipple. Can't stop looking although they will give me nightmares.

charlotteolivia · 13/01/2009 22:09

ps. sorry to divert!

charlotteolivia · 13/01/2009 22:11

ok, some of the photos get a bit graphic about deceased people. which i didnt realise before i posted the link. apologies.

whomovedmychocolate · 13/01/2009 22:13

I'm afraid when I had one of these I took to it with my tweezers and dug the offending hair out - the tweezers were sterile and I did put a lot of antiseptic on. But once the hair was gone it healed in a day. Twas a very scary six inch long hair as well - had obviously been growing there a while. My lump, it transpired was the coiled hair urrgggh.

PottyCock · 13/01/2009 22:13

oh. my. golly.

charlotteolivia · 13/01/2009 22:16

just to re-itterate, these photos are FAKED they aren't real

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 13/01/2009 22:47

wish I hadn't looked - am normally pretty unshockable but that stuff was nasty. Would seriously recommend not looking at all.

Sorry to op, hope you get it sorted.
