Extremely painful foot pain, from big toe to ankle, around ankle and just above it.

Last night my foot started to hurt, it felt a bit like I had pulled a ligament a bit or something. However, the pain got more and more intense as the evening wore on.

Once I was in bed lying down, the pain became almost unbearable, it shifted a bit, across my toes, from big toe, across whole of front of foot (in sort of waves), and tigthened, pulsed and was very painful at ankle also. I could not get it to stop hurting no matter how I rested it, and even ibruprofen did nothing to ease the pain at all. I got about 1 hours sleep in total as everytime I dosed off it hurt with a vengeance again.

Today, when I stand on the other leg, not the painful one, the painful one is less painful, a dull ache, sometimes a smarting but bearable pain. If I put any weight on it, pain gets worse, if I put weight on and move it, it hurts even more.

If I sit down, lie down, the pain becomes worse, lying down, it is unbearable.

On the top of the foot, near the ankle (ish), there is a vague blue lump/swelling and couple of the veins are bulging a bit more than on the other foot.

What could this be? Trapped nerve? Please do not say varicose veins!

What can I take to make it less painful? Its getting me down now. Its a constant.

Thanks for replying!

It has eased, I did not go to the Drs. It moved to the ankle, eased a bit and has settled there.

Tony - I do not eat caviar, can't be gout then eh?
