hi, have gone to epu for a scan as i got some discharge...thought it was due to my erpc(last month) that left some remaining products...in fact, they saw a cyst, that the dr calls dermoid...but i have been sent for blood test to check if malignant...
i am so worried as i have one ds and then had 2 mcs....has anybody been in this situation? do u think i will ever be able to have a second dc?? please advice as i am very low right now...

Although i haven't been in exactly the same situation, I had endometriosis and cyst on left overy which i had to have removed, always assumed it could be difficult to concieve but fell pregnant with dd 21/2yrs later completely by accident - we were delighted. I cant tell you what will happen with yours but try not to worry too much as all it will do is make you feel a lot worse. I'm sure the dr's will sort it out and in the mean time try to focus on your ds and all the wonderful things he does (children are wonderful distractions ) Hope all goes well, good luck

even if it had to be removed-last resort- you can stil conceive with 1 ovary.

It is unlikely to be malignant- hope you get results etc soon.

thanks ...i am so low...2 mcs and then that...on top of it, i have been off sick from work from so long, then just came back and now...
at least i hope it is not malignant... how long should i wait in case i have the surgery before conceiving again?

I had an ovary removed as a child due to cyst. I conceived without difficulty it took six months to fall pregnant with each of my two children.

lalatele · 13/01/2009 15:23

got the results...it's all ok...but i would like it to be removed. has anbody had mc and later discovered there was the cyst? I think it is connected although Dr says it is not...

So sorry you're going through this, but I'm glad it's good news Dermoid cysts have to be removed, as they don't go away on their own. It's better to have them removed earlier, rather than later, so you don't end up with a laparotomy scar.

In terms of fertility, they can give you various hormone tablets to help, but if you've still got one healthy ovary, as Honestfriend said, you can still conceive. Please let me know if you want any more info, as I had a dermoid removed last year.

hi subrosa, i just wanted to ask you how long it took to have your periods after that...were your cycles disrupted? have you tried/conceived since?

Hi Lala,

I had a period about 6 weeks after surgery; all my other periods have been all over the place. The gynaecologist put me on a high dose of progesterone for 6 months, to give my 1 and a quarter ovaries a chance to recover. I came off that a few weeks ago and I'm hoping that my cycle will go back to normal. We're not actively ttc at the moment, but the gynaecologist said if we were, it could take a few months for me to be fertile again.

I found I had a dermoid cyst at 13 wks pregnant with routine scan hadn't been trying to conceive and aged 40. Dr said ovary so badly damaged by the cyst it wouldn't have been working anyway. Had a operation to remove the cyst at 16 wks pregnant she is now healthy 1 yr

lilymolly · 15/01/2009 14:15

I have dermoid cyst that was picked up at dating scan and monitored again @ 16 and 20 weeks and I am due to go back at 34 weeks to check it wont interfere with labour.

All being well and I deliver vaginally, I am having the cyst removed laprascopically (keyhole) when I feel comfortable sometime this year.
I have been advised to get it removed, but that their is no hurry.
Even though I dont want any more children after this pregnancy(dcNo2) I was told that even if they removed the ovary, it would not interfere with fertility.

hi... I had a dermoid cyst that was the size of a grapefruit. They found it during my csection with my baby girl( she is 13 months today)...they removed it along with my left ovary and tube...the dr told me that hed be able to save maybe a part of the ovary but he couldnt guarentee the cyst wouldnt come back...so i told him to remove my ovary which he thouhgt was the best desicion. I was 24 years old at the time. Needless to say i was scared I would never be able to have another child. Im sure as you all know that that feeling is horrible! After comming home with my beautiful daughter... my periods finally bcame regular (they had been all over the place the place the year prior to me getting pregnant). The third month came and I didnt get my period....i was scared...i figured i had a cyst on my only remaining ovary. Low and behold...it wasnt a cyst...I was pregnant again!! My son will be 2 months old in 2 days! It was alot easier to get pregnant with the one ovary it seemed...as we did without trying! I hope this helps!

I will be watching this thread as i have a dd and have had 2 mcs last year, on my probe scan after mc the doctor asked if anyone had ever mentioned that i had a cyst, i said no and he said ok then - and then didnt write anything on the notes!!! I have asked my gp and they have said cysts dont cause mc but like you i am not convinced. I am having terrible probs with bleeding at moment and am waiting for swabs and smear results but i want to try for another baby, i know exactly how you feel
