Oh dear.. I think I have sinusitis.. will I need antibiotics?

Getting pain in my right side of my face, under my eye, worse when I bend down.. does feel more puffy than my left side

have had a cold, but been taking cold& flu stuff, and it has not been too bad, but I can't be ill right now !

have taken some ibuprofen and a decongestant tablet...

anything else i can do

Ephedrine nasal drops (which you can buy over the counter) are brilliant. I always use them if I have sinusitis. They are very good at decongesting, and really help.

I've been moaning about mine for the last 24hrs (am in bed so that's why there's so much rubbish from cariboo on MN atm)

I've always just used sinutab and other similar remedies and they have worked a treat. Have not needed antibiotics or even to go to doc about it so far.

You def have sinusitis though from the symptoms - the bit I hate is when it hurts when you walk every time you put your foot down!

will get drops tomorrow.

am worried as i had it once when pregnant and i did not sleep for two nights with the pain and was literally banging my head on the floor to try to ease it . i don;t want to go through that again!!

Lulu, try contac (if it's still on sale), it is a great decongestant (ime).
Also take lots of warm baths
I had to take antibiotics after a bad bout of sinusitis, though. I feel your pain!

thank you !! i know there is stuff called sinutab and i have boots own version

thanks cariboo, have you suddenly turned into a muich stricter version of my mum??!

dress is not that short, i shall wear thick tights and a coat when i go out ! am not going to be out late and not drinking as waiting for a birth

if its no better by monday..get to the gp as you will need anti biotics

I had sinusitis quite badly when ds was about a year old.Felt really ill with it. Went to GP who prescribed antibiotics, but also recommended the ephedrine nasal drops. It cleared up quickly, and ever since, when I have felt sinusitis coming on, I have taken the drops at the first opportunity, and not needed the antibiotics. I could kiss my GP, he is wonderful!

Hope the drops work, but if not, go to GP and get antibiotics.

Hope you are soon better (sinusitis is rotten).

I have found the decongestant sprays, such as Otrivine, more effective than oral decongestants. If you can get access to some, then give it a try. And yes, see your GP. Even if you do not need antibiotics, they can prescribe some steroid based sprays for the inflammation.

felt a lot worse last night, with bad throbbing pain and dizzy, so got abx this morning, and hoping that will help ! x
