Help - I have itchy eyelids, is there anything I can do before I scratch my eyes out?

I have a very unattractive red eyeliner effect on my top eyelid

Combined with a rather horrid snowflake/bad dandruff/dry skin look

All in all I look fairly nasty

Never mind the itching & the pain

Is there anything I can buy over the counter or a natural remedy that will fix it?

My doctor said about cleansing with baby shampoo too, although I haven't tried it.
Brilliant links, chestnut, thanks.

My eyes are actually weeping, does that make the blepheritis more or less likely?

One of my eyes weeps a lot - usually just as soon as I get out of the house. I assumed it is part of the whole thing.

Mine don't look like that picture

The whole of my eyelids are very red/purple covered with much whiter dandruff/peeling skin towards the lashes

Do you wear nail varnish or use hand cream?

I only know two people who have had similar problems and both were traced back to hands not eye/face make up

Hmmm

Well I have thrush atm & I have been using Canestan. I thought I had washed my hands very carefully......but maybe???

So do I take antihistamine in case it is an allergic reaction or leave well alone (I have an antihistime cream but I am thinking that is a bad idea by my eyes)

You need to see your GP about this. I've had a number of different eye problems over the years with similar symptoms (blepharatis, allergic dermatitis, infections) and they all need different treatment.

In the meantime I'd wash the eye with cold water and slap nothing more interesting than e45 on the lid. Keep it bland.

Really?

Blimey I think I live at the GP's atm

OK this morning my eyes are dramatically better

Aloe Vera rules (or should that be 'rocks' in the current vernacular - gosh I feel old)

Who cars I feel loads better & look more like myself
