I think it is wonderful stuff - I took it all through pregnancy and get a bottle whenever I am feeling knackered. I swear I can feel the difference.

An osteopath told me that most women are borderline anaemic at the best of times - and when you've just had a baby you certainly could do with an iron boost. Because it is herbal the iron is more easily absorbed (I think....).

poppy34 · 07/01/2009 15:36

yes it is a very good boost and has sorted me out on a number of occasion..although I'm not sure swigging it from bottle asI've been known to do is what they had in mind.

ThingOne · 07/01/2009 17:36

Yes it is good if you are not really anaemic. But don't use it as an excuse for not eating properly.

I think I'm right in saying that the best way to get iron is to eat red meat. Nothing else will deliver the haem so quickly or efficiently.

However if you're a veggie or don't like eating red meat for whatever reason, then I've heard lots of people recommend Floradix.

I also used Floradix during pregnancy and when I remember I take it randomly as I am prone to anaemia. I think it is v good, and also easier on the stomach than other iron remedies which can block you up something chronic.

i love floradix
no constipation
tastes yummy

but wondering if perhaps you ought to have your thyroid checked

of course normal to be tired w new babe

but sometimes thyroid crashes after birth

Love Floradix, has been my best friend throughout this pregnancy and after a period of forgetting to take it (preggy brain) it saved me from the dreaded constipation iron pills by bringing my levels back up after just a couple of days.

If I ever start feeling run down or tired I start taking it and always feel better within a couple of days, sometimes after the first day.

Highly recommend!

I prefer Spatone, the sachets of water that are naturally high in water. You just add them to a glass of orange juice. Also no constipation and tastes nicer (IMHO ) than Floradix.

NoNickname · 07/01/2009 17:59

.. naturally high in iron not water

thumbwitch · 07/01/2009 18:00

yes, it's great.

In terms of iron supplements it's the creme de la creme. I take the liquid once or twice a week but have used the tablets before and found them to be good too (I actually like the taste of the liquid though! They use fruit juices and concentrates for flavouring) If you need iron or suspect that you do then trying a small amount once a week won't do any harm.

What I like best about Floradix though is they're owned by a cute little German family and have always been family-run. I only found that out when I was researching online. anyway just make sure you read lots of other reviews and do your homework before spending money on it because you might not need it:
