intestinal blockage and the BeeGees

My mom is in the hospital and has a massive UTI and intestinal blockage. They've tried giving her antibiotics for a couple of days, thinking the blockage might shrink (detected and monitored using x ray). That didn't work, so they are in the process of figuring out what it is -- they'll do a ultrasound of her gallbladder and perhaps a CAT scan of her intestines. If nothing changes, she'll probably have an operation sometime today. The doctor has said that she's in no immediate danger.

Now while I was looking on the web for some information, trying to find a google search that didn't come up with a million websites on colon cleansing, I noticed a lot of news stories about one of the BeeGees dying from an intestinal blockage. From the very scanty information I could find , it seems he had a heart attack that was blamed on the blockage. Does someone have a bit more info? I feel like this post is living proof I'm just a bit emotional at the moment. Seriously, the "real" information was reassuring. It's just that this has been nagging at me. Add to that the fact that my parents live in the US which is 7 hours behind us and I'm getting info from my dad about once a day and my mom's in no position to have a phone conversation at the moment (in pain, on demerol, has had nothing by mouth for 2 days..).. it's making me a little paranoid (quite obviously!).

JJ I don't have any experience but sorry to hear about your mum. Could you call and speak to one of her doctors for more information?
