IBS or a bug?!

I wonder if anyone who has IBS'ish symptoms can help - I have had IBS for about 3 years and its usually kept under controld by diet, the odd domperidone or buscapan depending on how I feel. (Most often triggered by diet or stress) - now I have had a stressful time recently, and am moving house, but have eaten a normal diet (just a bit extra for christmas) but have felt really sick since Thursday - much worse in the mornings but on and off all day and bad today. Now, I know I'm not pg but tablets and simple diet not really easing it at all - could this be warped IBS or something else - havent actually been sick, just felt really grotty...

I've found this with my IBS recently. I feel as it's a result of me eating more, and later at night!

Haven't been going far, either.

Sorry I know that's not much help.

3 people have gone home from here today with upset tummies - 2 have reported back from their doc as gastroenteritis

pickledHAN · 05/01/2009 15:34

ABC that was reassuring till I read Iklboo's comment!!

Am hoping that its funny tummy and will calm down as I havent got time to get laid low and thought I had avoided most things over Christmas.

I wondered if it might be something to do with eating more - have put on a little weight over Christmas and eaten a bit more than usual, am usually uncomfortable if I overeat but it usually eases within a few days - a delayed reaction I hope!

pickled han.. hope you don't mind me asking but which foods do you avoid?

my ibs used to just be stress related but lately it appears i have sooooooo many food triggers it's unbelievable.

my biggest ones are cheese and milk, and much as I am loathed to admit..... chocolate.

I've been like this since Christmas - just a bit bloaty and going to the loo more often. I think it's just a result of eating more rich food, more often.

I have to avoid spicy food, oily food, creamy food.

My lifesaver is aloe vera gel which I drink every morning when I'm having an attack. If you mix it with apple juice it really helps.

I forgot to take it over Christmas and have been suffering. I started taking it again tomorrow and my symptoms have all but disappeared again.

I have been taking peppermint oil capsules for IBS as have had it bad. But mine is rather stress/anxiety I htink.

plumandolive · 06/01/2009 11:21

I've felt like this for about three weeks; in the middle I had flu, but now have a constant bloaty feeling, tender tummy, pains moving around, but often low down'ish almost periody, sicky reflux feeling sometimes.

My period is late, so i thought it could be related to that too.
(Highly unlikely I'm pregnant.)
I put it down tom having had flu and not eating atall, then eating Xmas food.

But I wonder Pickled, if it's a bug?

I've heard a few people saying they've felt sick for a few weeks.

pickledHAN · 06/01/2009 16:32

Just checking in and thank you for the replies - I'm going to hope its the after effects of Christmas and IBS (although know it could be a bug - just could do without it materialising properly!)

Also realised that its is tied in with period as well so no wonder I'm feeling a bit groggy!

ABC - I need to avoid dairy too (and probably had a bit much over Christmas) - cant tolerate things like white onion, peppers, large quantities of tomatoes, mushrooms etc. Also cant do oranges for some reason. Coffee sets me off, as do some spices etc.

Thanks again for all your comments and I'll be crossing my fingers that I can move tomorrow morning without feeling like I have been at sea overnight - am moving house this week so need to be able to pack boxes and move them!

Thank you plumandolive - was just thinking I had better finish this thread off or else anyone who had posted may think I was hibernating and still feeling rubbish. Whilst not 100%, I have now moved house. calmed down and eaten a very basic diet for a week and am feeling a bit more like myself. Thank you for all your thoughts and comments.
