Do i need to get AB's or just keep on with the gargling of asprin and popping paracetamol?? I have been taking honey and lemon but it all hurts....
Any alternative remedies?

Stay away from dairy - it increases the saliva which, if you're finding it hard to swallow anyway, isn't good!

How bad are you? Bear in mind that the Dr's will probably be closed Wed pm and all day Thurs, if you don't go tomorrow.

IotasCat · 29/12/2008 22:16

I vote for antibiotics

snowboo · 29/12/2008 22:17

Well i feel like a hamster and just want to snuggle up in bed...(I have two boys so not much chance!) It came on on Boxing Day, seems no worse but no better iyswim....
Might have to brave the dr tomorrow.

I'd go and get a prescription for anti biotics, but perhaps not start taking them yet? With it being bank hols, you don't want to be at the emergency doctor!

snowboo · 29/12/2008 22:21

Ah thats a good point. been there, done that! I'll book in in the morning....
Thanks ladies

Tomato soup's supposed to be good in the meantime - something to do with the salt in it. I could never face it though! Just keep drinking loads, keep your throat moist.

cathcat · 29/12/2008 23:00

what is the difference between tonsillitis and a sore throat? Sorry if this is a thick question. Mu throat is inflamed, red and very painful. Swallowing really hurts and I have a digusting taste at the back of my throat. I feel rubbish!

jollyholly · 29/12/2008 23:06

It's like the difference between a cold and the flu. With tonsilitis, you will feel like you've ben run over by a steamroller, your whole body will feel dreadful, as well as having pus on your huge red tonsils

cathcat · 29/12/2008 23:13

Okay, my body does feel awful and all the rest, think I will try for the doctor tomorrow. thanks.

jollyholly · 29/12/2008 23:16

Better to get it checked, Cathcat, it can get nasty. Hope you both feel better soon, I have every sympathy for you (speaking as someone who had tonsilitis almost constantly until I had them taken out 2 years ago!)

singyswife · 29/12/2008 23:20

I had this once as an adult but lots as a child. As well as ab's I was given Solphadine to gargle with. It was bloody brilliant. You could actually feel the painkiller seeping into the sore bits (sorry if tmi just wanted to let you know how good it was). I cannot take solphadine as it makes me really sick but it was wonderful to gargle with.

Honey has a natural antibacterial agent in it if you can stand a warm drink with honey in it.

I got an emergency appointment and a lovely doctor who says I have Pharyngitis. Got Pencillin to take for 10 days and he said I can expect to feel ill for a few more days.
Anyone know if you can drink and take Penicillin?

Glad you're on the mend Cathcat. How did you get on snowboo?
