I'm struggling with it to be honest. Its all come as a total shock, I only found out yesterday that he'd started it the day before. He does NOT have cancer!

He has some sort of vasculitis, but they don't know what sort and so far have seemed unsure of how to treat it. Dad has no idea why he's having chemo, the Drs haven't explained it to him and haven't been there when I've been visiting.

I am concerned that he's on the main ward of a respiratory ward. The oncology dept have given him a booklet that tells him his immune system will be lowered and to avoid crowded places. I've asked for him to be moved to a single room but unless you have MRSA or CDiff there is no chance. So he is there with the other patients coughing and spluttering and all the visitors and their germs.

He feels very ill and looks like he will still be in hospital for Christmas. Its been 2 months now! I can't believe they still don't know whats wrong with him!

Ring the ward and ask to speak to the nurse in charge. Express your concerns about infection and ask how they propose to reduce the risk - then ring your dad's consultant's secretary and ask for an appointment to meet them with your dad on the ward. Whatever treatemnt he is receiving you and he should understand the risks and the benefits and what other options there are. Make them give you answers. Good Luck - and all the best to your dad.
