Side effects from Amoxycillin....a question

lulurose · 20/12/2008 20:31

Started taking amoxycillin yesterday for a sinus/throat infection as prescribed by GP. About an hour after taking the first capsule I started with chronic stomach pain which continued through the night. Still got the abdominal pain, feels like mild labour pains but...not nice.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure whether to carry on with them or not.

Thanks

I took this for a month or so for migraines. Didn't get these symptoms but there are a lot of stomach bugs going around. I've had chronic stomach pain on and off for the last 2 weeks. It could be a coincidence. What do the side effects list as?

nickytinseltimes · 20/12/2008 20:33

They can cause gaastro-intestinal problems. Can you ask for an alternative from the gp on call? There are plenty other kinds that might not be so hard on you.

ChristmasDisco - you were given this fo rmigraines? Are you sure? It is an antibiotic.

TotalChaos · 20/12/2008 20:38

I had a nasty tummy the 2nd morning on them, then was fine. Was a bit dozey/tired in the evenings, but may have been due to the draining effect of chest infection than the tablets. I would speak to GP or NHS Direct.

Hi, stomach pain is listed as a side effect so I'm pretty sure that the tablets are the culprit, maybe I'll put up with it until Monday and see what the GP says. Its frustrating because the infection I've had seems to be getting better so I really need to finish the course but I've been lying on the sofa all day in pain with my stomach!

Also DD2 has the same bug and is on amoxycillin medicine (yellow fridge stuff), she has had the most vile nappies ever today...I'm assuming thats a side effect too....

i had this with some tablets i took recently, i said take an hour before food and if i ate too soon it would ache

ChristmasDisco · 20/12/2008 20:44

oh I know that, twas only joking

BreevandercampLGJ · 20/12/2008 20:47

I was prescribed 1,500 mg a day for the next seven days as I have Poo Gnome eeeee aaa, so I await the stomach pain.

But quite frankly the stomach pain would be a welcome distraction from coughing and spluttering and the aching limbs.

lulurose · 20/12/2008 20:50

Oh poor you Bree ...wishing you better.

I will stop moaning on now and endure the pain!!
