I am incredibly hungry ... but I don't feel like eating.

It's the kind of hunger you get in pregnancy, or early breastfeeding. I have eaten, lots, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm getting over that dreadful chesty cold.

How can I stop being so hungry? Will this just pass?

are you drinking enough? (water that is, not wine !!)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/12/2008 17:07

are you pregnant?

NotQuiteCockney · 17/12/2008 17:18

More water is a good idea. I'll try that happily.

Deffo not pregnant.

Is your period due?

NotQuiteCockney · 17/12/2008 18:44

No, it's ending.

I've had more water, and a decent serving of dinner. Still starving.

Today I've had:

  • big bowl of cereal
  • milky tea
  • 100 grams of nuts
  • most of a Waitrose pizza, those big ones that serve two people - I had at least 2/3rds of it.
  • three slices of Stollen
  • a banana
  • wholemeal pasta, cheese, and ratatouille.

I've done no real exercise, maybe 30 minutes of walking all in.

I'm pretty sure this is a side effect of the end of the bug - DS2 was sobbing yesterday from hunger, while saying he didn't know what he wanted. I just want to be done with it.

How can this be from an ulcer? I'm not in pain?

If I'm still starving in a few days, I'll go see a doctor or something, but I really think it's from the bug. I had no appetite for a few days, because of the bug, I was just totally 'meh' about food. So of course now I'm starving.

Ah, ok, weird!

My hunger sort of weakens a bit if I eat a decent amount, but doesn't go away, at all, ever.

I think this started yesterday, mildly. I ate a normal dinner and then wanted ice cream, and then I was still hungry. It's been bad today. Hopefully it will clear tomorrow.

I've been eating like a horse as well. I think it is passing now. Perhaps it is the onset of Middle Aged Spread

I have also had a horrible cold which after nearly a week seems to be passing.

I think they say to "Feed a cold and Starve a Fever" although it is a myth and just an excuse to eat lots!

NotQuiteCockney · 17/12/2008 19:01

Is it the chesty cold that you've had?

I normally am very active, but in the last 6 months or so I've ended 5 kg up from my fighting weight, and I want to sort this out ... but I haven't run or biked or swum or climbed or anything for a week ...

When my bil had an ulcer he described it as a general gnawing aching sort of feeling that was similar to hunger and would go away a bit after eating. Too much gave him heart burn but the strange hungry feeling stayed with him. Could be worth checking out if persists. Only going on what I remember BIL mentioning and no medical expert though!

NotQuiteCockney · 17/12/2008 19:11

Weird - I did have heart burn last week sometime, lots of it.

Ok, well, that's something to keep an eye on. If I still have this pain on Monday, I'll talk to a medic.

I feel ok today, less hungry, maybe - it felt like it was fading by bedtime last night.

Worth knowing, about the ulcer symptom thing, though!
