Antibiotics - are they supposed to wipe you out?

Am taking Amoxycillin for a sinus infection - I just feel so drained and a bit sick.

I haven't taken antibiotics for years - do they have side effects like this?

Amoxycillin has just made my 2 year old do 10 lots of diarohea (sp!) in an afternoon.

TMI here - but I am having to go to the loo a bit more often as well.

Only another 5 days -

I get a really bad tummy from my regular antibiotics - co-amoxiclav - and do feel generally a bit beaten up. They are grim, aren't they?

Amoxicillin can make you really queasy, also diarrhoea, thrush etc. Probiotic yoghurt can help with some of the side effects. Feeling drained may be part of the infection. Important to complete the course to avoid resicstance. Hope you feel better soon!

I have been on antibiotics since June and feel totally wiped out. I am told that its the infection making me feel like that and not the tablets I have experienced a range of symptoms from sickness, diarrohea and lethargy.

Agree about probiotics - some capsules are more powerful than the yoghurts.

Hope you are feeling better soon

Go and get some acidophilus from a good health food shop (it will be kept in the fridge if it's a good shop). This will help re-establish good bacteria in your gut.

Antibiotics kill bacteria and do not distinguish between 'good' and 'bad', which is why you feel so shit.

In France, apparently, if you are given antibiotics you are also routinely given a probiotic.

Thanks for your responses everybody - I will get some probiotics.
