How do you go about getting a sick note??

Well I know the general idea is that you go to the GP - but do you jus ask for as long as you want, or wait to see what is offered?

I had varicose vein surgery and was given 2 weeks wich runs out at the end of this week. Could do with another week to get pulled round, as full of cold as well.

I have never had one apart from the hospital, so not sure what to do?

just go and see GP and ask for one

You see the GP, tell them what the problem is, and they will decide how long they issue the note for.

If you need longer, you have to go back towards the end of the period the note covers you for and they will issue you with another one.

You will have to get an appointment before the note you have runs out, otherwise you won't be covered. You cannot self-certify once you have been off work over a week or when there has been a doctor's note issued.

If you have a reasonable doctor they may be prepared to speak to you over the phone and issue one for you to pick up, seeing as it's following surgery - you can but try. But they may want you to come in and see them before they issue it.
