Bad sinusitis, now labyrinthitis / BPV -arrgh!

I posted here recently with awful sinusitis and got loads of useful advice. Sinusitis took 4 weeks to clear up after eventually got antib's. But was still left with feeling of pressure above teeth till couple of days ago. Now have developed intense dizziness (head spinning) worst in bed in the morning when try to get up or roll over - have had this for 1 week now. Have diagnosed myself with either labyrinthitis or benign positional vertigo. Anyone experience same? Is it likely connected to the sinusitis or is that coincidence and do I need to go to doc?

Go to doc. Get it checked out. I've had labyrinthitis and it was very nasty indeed. Even treated it left me with hearing problems for nearly five years.

It was horrible. It was linked to my sinusitis, which I get a lot, but this was the first time I got vertigo with it. I couldn't lift my head off the pillow without being sick.

It's miserable isn't it. Mine took 2 days 'brewing' (slight dizziness), one day really ill couldn't stand up, two days recovering. Hope yours clears up soon. My doctor gave me some medication for the sickness which seemed to work. Can't remember what it was now.

Thanks - going to doc tomorrow. Have had milder version than you describe for over a week now. Seems mainly bad in the morning and evening and is OK in the day time though the nausea comes in waves. The head spins I get in bed in the morning are quite something! Have mild earache too so think is all related.

Thanks Kerrymum - is this a herbal thing? Have seen doc now and got more antibiotics and stemetil which has already helped but happy to try someting herbal too.

hiya if stemetil doesnt work for you then betahistine dihydrochloride is good imo. stemetil didnt work for me and my gp said that sometimes happened and for some people BH was better.

i have repeat episodes now (yea on) when i get bad colds, so i take BH straight away for a bit and it helps, imo the earlier you notice symptoms and take the better.

Bloody hell. Can't bear the thought of it settling in for repeat visits. The sinusitis is like that - never used to get it but once it started now get it every time I catch a cold. Thankfully the stemetil seems to be doing the job - could actually tell when it had worn off this afternoon - and luckily isn;t making me drowsy. So it's just waiting it out now. Thanks all.

Hello new member here. Just searching for any details on Lab. Just had my first (and last i hope) episode of it boxing day taken to hospital by ambulance. It is really nasty couldnt get out of bed for 6 days. the speed with which it attacked me was shocking. Fine 1 minute staggering into a bush the next. Violently sick and nauseous for about a week. Got Stemetil from doc and injected at the hospital. Now 2 weeks on cant go out much yet, dont want to attempt to drive and if i turn quickly or bend down i am quite dizzy and light headed. strange i wasnt ill at all before hand. wouldnt like to think i was stuck with repeat episodes of it if it happens without warning like that. i had never heard of it before but nice to see i am not alone

Hi redhot. You have my sympathy - if it is BPPV, you may find that something called the Epley Manoeuvre may help. It can be carried out by a chiropractor - try phoning the McTimoney Chiropractic Assocaition MCA to find someone local.

I do not get much relief from Stemetil, does anyone else?

I'd echo going to the doctor, I had labrythitis and couldn't even sit up in bed without feeling very very ill. I was out of it for 6 weeks, dc's were at the baby/toddler stage and I couldn't even take myself to the loo. The plus side was dh had to take the time off work and be me, it taught him a lot .

I have had labyrinthitis a few times over the years and have managed to control it with the 'staring at a point on the wall whilst walking and nodding my head etc', but recently after recovering from viral meningitis, i am still suffering the month long bout of it. It really has been hell. I have to say though, in response to the email below, that i had sinusitis all through the summer and i cannot help feeling like there is a connection. I am currently in the que to see an ear, nose and throat specialist. I have done a lot of research on the internet and am taking Echinacea, propolis and Astragalus. Propolis is a natural antibiotic whilst Astragalus and Echinacea are good for boosting the immune system. So fed up of being giddy all the time and my ear hurts.
