Please, can anybody tell me what is a lump in the breast?? Does it mean a cancer or not?? I looked in vocabulary and it means two things in russian. One is cancer, other one is a ,lump itself??

And what would you think if you would hear this "She is in hospital, she had operation to check a lump in her breast."
Does it mean something serious??

I cannot get any further news on condition of this lady. But how serious a lump can be?

doesnt always mean cancer, i have a lump but it is ok, so they left it there.
hope you can get some news and that she will be ok

Many women have breast lumps that are not cancerous - that means they are benign, and not serious. Sometimes they may carry out an operation to take a sample of the lump or remove the lump altogether, and then test it to see if it is cancer.

A friend of mine had an operation to remove a breast lump, and it wasn't cancer.

But of course in some cases it is cancer;

If you hear "she is in hospital, she had operation to check a lump in her breast" it means the person in hospital had a lump, they have operated to remove the lump and now the lump will be checked to see if it is cancerous or just a harmless lump.

Hope you get some answers soon, please do not worry too much.

And if it is not, and they leave it inside can in future this lump develop into a cancer???

The length and type of treatment depends on the type of cancer. But yes, can be lengthy.

If the lump is NOT cancerous, it will be safe to be left and will NOT turn cancerous.

But remember, 8 out of 10 lumps in the breast are not cancer.

Thank you a lot!!!
I really hope and pray this is nothing serious. The news shocked me last night...
I jst remember my next door neiborgh and she was my maths teacher had a cancer. It was a long road to recovery but 10 years after she died not of breast cancer but of bone cancer..
So for word "lump" sounded a death sentence..
