How do you know if you've got a chest infection?

I've not been ill for years, and have been totally unsympathetic when other were ill. (DP, I mean - not strangers!)

BUT I've been in bed since Saturday, shivering and sweating, coughing, sore head etc.

I'm a bit better now, but I have a horrible cough that hurts. People keep telling me to make sure I don't end up with a chest infection.

How do I know if I've got a chest infection?

What are the symptoms? And if I do, what is the cure?

It already sounds like a chest infection to me.

Fever, headache, coughing up colourful mucus (green/orange/yellow-green one of these colours).

The cure is antibiotics. Just antibiotics. You really do need to see your GP. He'll listen to your chest for crackle sounds, if it crackles, you have an infection.

I hope you are feeling better soon. Go and see your lovely GP.

OK. Thanks. I will. I have a fear of going to the GP with something completely inconsequential, so as a result I never go.

But I will take your advice and go tomorrow.

Thanks.

It may not be a chest infection, you do have the symptoms though but I can't listen to your chest over the web so your GP will have that honour.
