help for friend re abortion please

a friend of mine had an abortion 7 weeks ago. She is still 'feeling pregnant' and pregnancy tests are still sowing positive. she is incredibly stressed, won't go to gp as she knows people who work at her doctors and she is incredibly ashamed. She paid privately to have the abortion and went to another town over an hour away so can't go back. i think this can't be right, she said she was scanned after so can't be preganant, can she?
Advice really gratefully received i am worried about her.

did she have medical management of an op? if med mangement she could still be reading positive for a few more weeks...

or an operation

Is she bleeding still? I had 'retained products' 4 weeks later. + pregnancy test, and then a scan showed alot of white mass. She needs to get it checked asap, unless of course she is pregnant again or maybe twins? Not unheard of .

If she is bleeding/in pain go to A & E - they would have kept me in, but no beds (!)

I don't know what kind of abortion, just know it was very early stages. she phoned up a helpline and was told she shouldn't be having a positive test 7 weeks after but was given no explanation which i thought was odd.

Yes a and e was my thought, terrible she can't go to her own gp though, she didn't mention bleeding, i think she would have done if she is.

i agree with buckwheat she needs to be checked....i had mmc but they deal with it the same way, i still had retained tissue and a positive read a week after so had to have eprc.

BuckwheatPillow · 04/12/2008 18:37

Yes, should have said I had an ERPC within a few hours of a scan. If no bleeding can she go to a walk in clinic or private scan?

Quadrophenia · 04/12/2008 18:38

I think she is very frightened, I did tell her she needs to get checked out

she needs to go asap, she could be at risk of infection...

Needs to get checked out.

Could have 'retained products' where not all of the foetal tissue and placenta have been aborted.

Is there any chance that she has caught pregnant again before even having her next period? I just ask because I saw someone yesterday in exactly this scenario who had achieved just that.

Her GP has a duty of confidentiality as do any staff with access to her records at the surgery. If she is asked why she wants an appointment, she does not have to say or can just be vague and say 'women's problems'.
