I've had catarrh now for about 4 weeks, and I am sick and tired of the never ending slime in my throat.

It is making me feel really nauseous/sicky and I CANNOT GET RID OF THE BUBBLE/BLOB lurking in my pipework.

Is there anything anyone can suggest apart from steaming my head over a bowl, because I've tried that!

Try drinking whiskey mixed with hot water, lemon juice and honey. Stay clear of dairy products as milk encourages the formation of phlegm.

If you haven't got any whiskey I would think most alcohols would work. It might not taste nice though.

girlandboy · 03/12/2008 22:29

So you're stuck with it too.

Ugh, don't like whisky!

Mind you, it can't be worse than what's already in my throat/chest.

Will have a rummage through pathetically small alcohol cupboard.

snort salt water

Piffle · 03/12/2008 22:37

tons of water helps shift it
As does physically busting a gut to cough it up
You can get foul medicine from
Pharmacy too for it. Tar of smells like!
Avoid fatty foods too

DoubleBluff · 03/12/2008 22:40

i do snort warm water in the shower - delightful to listen to! similar kind of thing?

OMG

A Netipot!! It looks and sounds terrible. I'm afraid I hate anything going up my nose.[wimpy emoticon]

I can't even bear Vicks nasal spray up there

Ah it's a piece of cake! You soon get to used to it. As long as you measure the salt correctly and have the water at good temperature (just warm) you hardly feel it.

Trust me - it works a charm on stubborn catarrah!

girlandboy · 03/12/2008 22:58

Oh dear, why is it always the gruesome things that work.

Is there no tiny, chocolate covered pill that would cut through it?

Bloody typical

My DH had this badly recently and pharmacist recommended medicine called Meltus - did seem to help. Also elderflower tea v good for mucus-y problems.

girlandboy · 04/12/2008 09:51

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will now go and try them out.

Airwaves chewing gum helps me.

VirginBoffinMum · 05/12/2008 13:13

Homeopathic remedy called Pulsatilla, 30C version, might work.

Madonna and my husband both snort salt water for this.

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 05/12/2008 13:16

I will try the other suggestions, but I repeat I WILL NOT SNORT SALT WATER FOR ALL THE TEA IN CHINA!

AMumInScotland · 05/12/2008 13:17

I find the Benylin chesty cough mix does wonders for me when I get this - the original can-cause-drowsiness version. I know cough mix in general has little effect, but I find that one works on my catarrh, I think it's the fumes...

georgiemum · 05/12/2008 13:17

Hot toddy before you go to bed.

Your nose will run like a train the next day but that will shift it!
