DS1 has chickenpox - groan!

DS1 started chickenpox on Saturday (noticed a spot on his back). Today he is covered in them and really miserable. Completely sympathise with him, poor lad. He has spots everywhere.... and (The location of some made my eyes water!)

Anyone got any tips on how to cheer up a grumpy 3 year old (and keep his 16 month old brother) entertained too? I think it's going to be a long week.......

try bathing him with a bit of baking soda in the water, it should help with thr itching

also if he has any that are in contact with other areas of skin, ie inside of thighe or underside of arms i was told by a pharacist it could put bandages around them to avoid irritation and spreading, it also helps them dry up quicker.

Hi i know how it feels both my dd had it within two weeks of each other so if your ds2 hasn't had it be prepared.I used eurax cream which i found brill! I also gave them mediced as it has an antihistimine in it which helps with the iching.

Thanks floppsy! Just got back from the chemist with piriton (prescription from GP) and Eurax. Poor ds1 has flaked out on the sofa now. DS2 (16 months) is dancing to Boogie Beebies!

Oooo. I'm glad I noticed this. My ds (20 months) came down with chicken pox this morning. Looking forward to a mad few days (and throwing all our Easter holiday plans out the window) and waiting for my dd to get it too!

Hi mumbo & cadbury,just wondering how the children are,how did the night go because i find thats the worse part of the day,they get itchy an irritated & if your up all night its not nice.Hope their o.k.

know the feeling DD1 has just got it too but fortunatly she has only had one bad night just put camamile lotion on non stop and baths are good (keeps them cool) and doseing her up with piroten too just wondering now how long it's gonna be before dd2 gets it hmmmmm

Aww thanks for asking. Ds is now covered in spots but the only one that seems to be iritating him is in the cornre of his eye. He keeps going to wipe it and takes the head off when he does. He's pretty chirpy though and we've had quite a nice pottering sort of day.

He was a bit grumbly in the early part of the night but went back off without intervention but woke at 3am a bit less happy. No idea what went on as DH saw to him - I was out cold .

Ds does have a bit of diarroeah (I can't spell it [blush) but isn't upset with it.

How is every one else doing?

Hi all - we should rename this thread the chickenpox support group .

Had an awful night, I got about an hours kip. DS1 was really unhappy, I think his spots were giving him real problems particulary around his bottom (sorry if TMI!). Then DS2 woke up so I was downstairs with both of them. Today's spot count is still under review (!) as I keep losing count. He's got one spot right in the corner of his eye which is also causing aggro. He's also decided that he doesn't like Piriton so it's a bit of a battle to get that inside him.....

Can anyone confirm when its "safe" to go out anywhere? I feel like just packing them in the car and going for a drive for something to do......as long as we don't come into contact with anyone.

The only highlight of my day is an email I sent in to Radio 2 was read out this morning and my boys got a mention. (I'm really not that sad, honest, but it made me feel so good!)

mumbojumbo shouldn't see any problem hun with going out maybe stay away from really inclosed places like cafes and stuff but shopping and things should be fine has uur ds's spots started scabbing yet?? apperently this is when the contagious stage is over not totaly sure but have been told by childminder... the only risk I know of if u go out is pregnant women but other than that I don't think there is any.....

Sympathies to all you mums of spotty kids. My three oldest had it 4 years ago - you always remember!

To be fair, mine weren't too ill though. Calamine lotion is supposed to be good if the spots are itchy. Mumbojumbo, if you can count the spots, you are doing well! My ds1 came down with it first and I counted about 50 spots all over his body. When ds2 and dd got it, they each had about 50 spots on their necks alone - goodness knows how many on their whole bodies 1000s I imagine. They had competitions each day in the bath as to who was worse afflicted!

Also, I took mine out (bad mother!) because, as I said, they weren't ill with it and everyone in the village under the age of 6 seemed to have spots anyway! If you go for a drive or a play in the park if your ds is up to it, it can't harm surely?

Quick update - ds2 is now showing signs of chickenpox.... ds1 does seem to be over the worst. Still very spotty but they do seem to be shrinking.

Hope he's feeling better. Dd and ds2 are full of green gunk, but no sign of spots as yet..........
At least we don't have to rise too early in the morning - holidays - yippee, sort of!

DD1's are scabbing a treat now just got to stop her picking at them Grrrrr... oooo DD2 hasn't yet started showing signs but if she does get them it will be while their in scotalnand with their dad ooooh should be fun as he hasn't had to deal with the poorlys for 2 years {evil laugh emoticon}

Ok thanks. Ds is covered from head to foot with the blighters and has a nasty temp when not dosed up. Ok when he is though. No signs from dd yet but we are climbing the walls. At least dh will be home tomorrow. Sound like lots from dd's preschool have it and if she didn't get infected from the same source as ds, she will have caught it from preschool on friday or from her brother. Just waiting now.
