mirena coil over 5 years?

Hi there! I have had the mirena coil in for five and a half years. I know it needs taking out but the strings have gone! For the past couple of months I have noticed that I am spotting on a regular basis. I am pretty concerned about this. I feel totally hormonal, aching back - just like period pain. Has anyone else had any problems like this. Could it be the hormone on the mirena is wearing off? Would appreciate anyones comments. Thanks!

Go to your gp!!! The reason you are supposed to have it out after 5 years is because it is only designed to give out hormone for that long. I think you can have a new one inserted on the spot.

Thanks sofiaAmes. I have made an appointment for next week! I am one of those people that hates going to the doctor and totally phobic of hospitals! I know I will have to go to hospital to get it out!
