Son grates his teeth

Hiya all,
My one year old son (just turned) really grates his teeth together, and hes only got 6 with one cut cut about 2 weeks ago.
Is this normal, and how can we stop it? (Btw, hes our 1st).

Yes, it's normal, and if you are lucky he will stop doing it once his teeth fit together comfortably! But will probably do it again for a bit every time he gets a new tooth. (Some kids just go on doing it - it seems to be a hereditary thing. Sounds awful but does no damage - it's called bruxism .)

DS does this too - sounds like he's eating sand! He does it more when he gets a new tooth (he has 7 and turns one in a fortnight).
