How long is this stupid fluey type bug going to last?

It started (I can pin it down exactly!) 17 days ago on the Friday. I had a touch of conjunctivitis and had a hideous day at work with hot and cold sweats. But, I'd made plans go go out with friends that eve and went anyway, because I am the sort that turns up when I've agreed to go somewhere. Once I'd had a couple of beers I felt much better anyway and had a good evening.

Next day the eye was a complete mess, but I didn't feel too bad (considering the beer anyway) Conjunctivitis now treated and better, but the sweats have been coming and going every 2-3 days ever since. I had a couple of days when I did what had to be done, but spent the rest on the sofa and I had thought I was on the mend, with only an annoying cough left. But today I am absolutely exhausted and really really want to be sick. DP keeps saying "I told you to go to bed on day1" which is getting on my nerves as much as being ill, esp as although he did say it, he would only have meant it until someone needed something or couldn't find something.

I've got loads to do....I can't afford to be ill any longer. Sorry, I'm feeling sorry for myself, but I've spent over 2 weeks being brave and getting on with it

isit, I seem to have the same. Started with a light cold which has got progressively worse. So much so I was practically crying my eyes were watering so badly. Thankfully the eyes are better now, the nose is marginally better but the throat is worse

So, NO idea when it finishes but you have my sympathy!

loopylou6 · 30/11/2008 22:21

didnt get the watery eye thing, BUT i know just what you mean, this cold is horrendous, i am still fighting it off after nearly 3 weeks, can i suggest you make yaself a hot toddy, hot water sugar lemon and whisskey, worked wonders for my dh who started with it but escpaed the full hit by having a hot toddy, hope u feel better soon

Elibean · 30/11/2008 23:03

Just had that one, or one like it, lasted about 3 weeks nastily, then slowly ebbed over another 2 weeks. Seemed to come and go?

Now I have the 'short-sharp-fever-cough' bug, so can't really tell if the other one went completely or not

Get well soon, fellow sufferers!

KatyMac · 30/11/2008 23:06

Umm about 9 weeks & expecting to converlease (sp) for a while longer

giraffescantdancethetango · 30/11/2008 23:11

Make sure your taking as much meds as you can. I had an awful coldy thing last week - sore ears and throat too. It started to go away then yesterday its come back with stabbing pains in throat and really bad ear pains, as well as labyrinthitus.

When I had coldy thing I took lemsip x4 and ibuprofen x6 and strepsils and used 4head.

Now I have cocodamolx8 and ibuprofenx6 and strepsils and 4head.

Medication is the way to go

Hope you feel better soon. Sleep can make sure a difference if you can get some. I have already been asleep this evening then woke up, feels like 4am to me now.

Just getting over it now, can't bear the aching lower back and hot legs. Didn't have the eyes though. And (look away if you're sensitive, this will be TMI) the colour of the stuff that has come out of my lungs is HORRENDOUS! Have had it for about a week, was just feeling better this afternoon, when my 2 1/2 year old vomited all over me, has a cough and a temperature ...

Hope you get rid of it soon.

kyrasmummy · 01/12/2008 00:39

I've got this to and it's awful, my problem is i cannot sleep with it, i am exhausted and have had 6 hours sleep in the past 5 nights. I actually cried for my mum this morning, i am a wuss

thumbwitch · 01/12/2008 00:41

well, I got some horrible cold/sore throat/ cough/ chesty thing on 6th Nov and the catarrh only really cleared yesterday. I think today was the first day without it.

VictorianSqualor · 01/12/2008 08:30

Don't take any of the over-the-counter cold remedies if you're breastfeeding, btw, I took lemsip (after reading the back and seeing nothing about BFing) then found out it really is not good to take it whilst bfing.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/12/2008 08:33

I have had it for 9 days and counting. It is slowly getting better but the symptoms seem to change everyday.

VS - what is in Lemsip that is a no no? I've been sticking to paracetamol to get me through.

turtledove23 · 01/12/2008 08:42

Nearly three weeks in the turtle house. Ugh. Last night first night in a month that DS slept through. Been up feeding him/comforting him/changing sheets due to cough vom for soooo long.

turtledove23 · 01/12/2008 08:43

btw it is the decongestant in lemsip that passes into breast milk and not a good idea.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/12/2008 08:48

Thanks turtle. I did keep away from decongestants. I thought my head and sinus' were going to explode, but I found those Karvol plug-in things work miracles.

VictorianSqualor · 01/12/2008 09:14

I started a thread on it the other day here

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/12/2008 09:24

Thanks VS.

You have to be so carful. When you feel so awful it's easy to not give a thought about what you're taking.
