for a few hours I wouldnt go too far away from a loo but I recall it working pretty quickly

DingDongDisasterAreaOnHigh · 29/11/2008 22:34

yes. you will indeed have very large bowel movements. the idea is to clear out eveything in your bowel so they can get a good look. get plenty of loo roll and magazines in. good luck.

Once it is administered, it takes about 10 mins to work properly (the longer you can leave it the better) and then you just have a good 'clear out' but don't worry, you will know if you need to go after that, it will not catch you unawares. Good luck! I had to have that too.

How long did the procedure take?

Were you sedated?

Thanks!

You will also need Sudocrem or similar as you will get a very sore bum It can take around 6 hours to clear out completely.

I think when I had mine done it took about half an hour. I was sedated, so didn't feel a thing.

Good luck!

Are you having the laxative at home? I've had one which was horrible and I was tied to the loo and the other which was bearable, and stopped after a while.

Yes, picolax?!

My DH has had this - he was fine. He was up and down to the loo about every 20 minutes for a couple of hours. You should also keep walking aorund as it makes the picoprep (or whatever you use) work better. Also keep drinking plenty of water and any other fluids they allow.

We also ate strained chicken noodle soup (I joined him as felt mean eating a meal with him on liquids!)

The endoscopy was fine (he had that and colonoscopy) - he was under full GA but was fine after a biscuit or three afterwards, although his stomach was still unsettled for the remainder of the day.
Good luck - he was dreading it but said it was much less bad than he imagined.
