Is there a 'quick-fix' for awful PMS (before I kill dh at Christmas)

My PMT/PMS has been getting worse recently, and the week before I come on I really really could cause serious violence (to dh) and feel like screaming at the dds and I'm very short-tempered and nasty. Work makes me tearful and unable to cope. I really feel quite out of control.

and guess what... the next batch of it is due 4 weeks yesterday and today: Christmas and Boxing Day - hurrah!

Is there anything I could start taking now which might help with symptoms (Evening primrose / st johns wort, etc) or do they usually take a few months to kick in.

Magnesium OK had an effect on me within a month. Supposed to take longer but didn't.

Horrible feelng isn't it.

I could do with that aswell, is that what I ask for? Magnesium OK?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/11/2008 22:48

I buy it from the normal shelves in boots, not over the counter. Usually with the vits and minerals, in the "time of the month" section.

It's basically a massive dose of several Vit Bs with magnesium and calcium as well. they claim it's the mag and cal which does the trick. I then noticed the quantity of various Vit Bs, which must have an impact. 1500 % of one of them??!!

I don't take it all the time. Just enough to keep me going. Long term effects of excessive Vit Bsomething can cause tingling, but just don't take it for that long. There doesn't seem to be any issues re the tingling.

And it turns your wee bright yellow. That's the magnesium.

Don't take it at night, can keep you awake.

Tbf, there are people here who swear by evening primrose oil. It just didn't do anything for me.

Sorry, that makes it sound quite scary. I don't think it is.

Oovavu · 28/11/2008 22:52

Thanks for that, am going to Boots tomorrow. I think I took vit B12 once when I was younger for something period-related and my poo went black

Black poo again - no
Yellow wee, I can do. Thanks

Hope it works... (but not as much as dh does!)

I shall be making the pilgramage to Boots tomorrow also, evening primrose did nothing for me either so I shall give this a go. Some months I'm fine but last month for example was just horrendous

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/11/2008 23:11

I hope it works. I keep on about it here - am quite evangelical. Haven't seen anyone come back and say it's a pile of pants.
