My ds started yesterday with a loose sounding cough, it's not yet effecting his sleep but he does seem quite upset after he coughs. Maybe it scares him not being able to catch his breath. Is there any medicines that will help or should I take him to the doctors? He doesn't seem ill in any other way and is eating normally. Could it be comething more serious like croup??

Croup is a symptom of laryngitis and usually comes on in the evening. If he's lost his voice, you'll need to watch for it - but you'll soon know. My DS asked to go to bed at 5pm, and couldn't sit up to eat his tea - was struggling to breathe and really distressed. We got his breath back by me beathing tiny breaths with him, keeping his mouth closed.

Ahh probably not that then thankfully. He is still singing and babbling in full voice and didn't seem any worse in the evening. He is fine sitting and playing and is just as active with walking and running everywhere, he just keeps coughing for about 2 minutes and then crying as it scares him I think . Thank you for replying, I just realised I actually posted this in the wrong place- didn't know there was a separate children's health section. Thank you for the info!

No harm in having it checked, since it's distressing him - coughing for 2 mins is not nice.
