this is really hard to talk about, i have 3 children, my youngest is 12.5months, i had spd in pregnancy, when i delivered her i felt something 'go' anyway, i have not been able to be sexually active should we say since the birth! i have developed a ridge inside my vagina, about 2 inches inside, it feels like instead of being circular it is semi circled, and it feels hard.

any ideas whats going on? i had a scan today and my ovaries etc is fine, i am totally lost as to whats wrong any body

I had diastasis symphysis pubis which is similar. Do you think you had that? The ligament at the front of your pelvic girdle goes "baggy" and the pelvis moves about. My pubic bones used to make a noise like a pistol shot when I moved and the pain was incredible. Perhaps this is what you felt "go" when you delivered.

Have you had a vaginal examination? When I insert a mooncup I can feel a hard ridge, but it doesn't hurt at all. I rather assumed this was just the front of my pelvis/pubic bone.

Go back to the gp.

yeah this sounds the same, it makes clicking noises, and aches down the thighs! the hard ridge does not hurt like the ahces etc, but it is irratating during intercourse and not sure what is happening.

i've had an examination but she was not sure so sent me for a scan which said my ovaries were fine, and i am waiting for physio again, she also said my muscles seem okay could this be the same???

The scanning of your ovaries....would that go low enough to "see" that part of your pelvis???

Found this. Maybe worth reading to see if it's relevant at all.

Did you get the same problem with all your pregnancies, or just the last one. Had a minor form of it with my first pg, then it got ALOT worse with my next. Doctor at hospital advised not having any more unless I wanted to spend the whole pg in a wheelchair.

Anyway, mine cleared up within a few weeks of delivery, but while pg I had to wear a "truss". Delightful.....I've still got it somewhere.

thanks i had it with my middle child and it took 10 months to clear up, but this time it is still going on, so i really dont know what is up, does the 'ridge' go back into place? would a support belt help with it?

thanks

The support belt was like a really wide band of very strong elastic with velcro at the ends. Like this.

It wrapped quite low around my bottom, and was absolute bliss to wear because it stopped my pelvis shifting around. It basically immobilised everything.

My midwife referred me to the physio at the hospital because frankly my gp was useless and just kept prescribing co-codamol. When he saw the belt at an antenatal visit he asked me what it was!!!

I don't know if it will do anything for the "ridge". I don't know if the ridge is your pubic joint, but perhaps a physio may be able to tell. The physio I saw gave me an examination, which although wasn't internal, it did involve her putting her hand in my knickers!!!! She pressed about a bit to feel the pubic joint. Perhaps your pelvis has become a bit displaced and this is why you can feel a ridge. Has no-one suggested an x-ray? Perhaps the scan would show it up, or was that just to look at your ovaries and not your pubic area.

I would persist with the doctor and tell him/her about the ridge again. Also ask about the belt because it will help with the aches and pains. You shouldn't have to put up with this

mumtoo3 · 20/11/2008 08:19

thank you

no one has sugested a x-ray yet, the scan i thought was a pubic area scan, so i was shocked when they were looking at my ovaries . but if another doc or hv ask if i am pregnant i will scream, the hv asked me 5 times. its like they dont listen to 'we cant have sex cause the pain is too much' aahhh

anyhow got to go back to see gp next week for results so i think i will push then for the x-ray, but will it show it up after a year?

OP posts:

Oh this is not right at all, is it?!

If you Google diastasis symphysis pubis and look at "images" you will see lots of x-rays, and you can see where the bones are too far apart, and also where some of them have become mis-aligned. I would imagine that if your bones haven't gone back into position then an x-ray would show it.

I don't really know what to say about the ridge thing, it could all be related. But I would keep pushing your gp for a referral because this is just not acceptable.

Hope you get on alright!

I will watch this thread next week if you want to update it. It will be interesting to see what the doctor says!

Don't let them fob you off - mine tries to do that, but I won't stand for it anymore! I give him one of my hard stares and this . I bet he hates me!

Good luck.
