How soon after vasectomy is safe?

Friend's dh had a vasectomy 3m ago . She can not recall being advised when it is safe to have sex without fear of pregnancy.

Her dh is meant to provide the hospital with a sperm sample to check but can't remmember when and does not seem to be able to get round to it.

Can anyone give advice?

You have to have two clear semen samples one month apart before you get the all clear. We are still waiting after (wait for it) 16 months! though dh does keep forgetting to do the samples.

think it is three months. My dh didn't get round to it for nearly six months though. You have to get sample to hospital within quite a short time, wound up waiting till he was on holiday as he didn't want to explain to work why he would be late!

I heard from a friend that it's a year

Have to provide quarterly samples and when 3 or 4 have been clear, you have the 'all clear'

My dp had his done in April last year - he finally had the all clear yesterday! I think 'normally' it takes about 3 months for the old sperm to clear but with some it takes much longer... Tell her to keep using the condoms until the tests come back negative.
