i ahve avery odd pain/lump on my shin

i dont remember bumping /knocking it. it stated hurting yesterday, this morning it looked like it might be starting to bruise- kind of reddish, now its still hurting but a bit more and its a largish lump and hot . could it be infected? and if so how the hell did that happen???

i know its not v exciting but it really hurts. do you think i ought to make drs appt or will it go away if i ignore it???

If it is large, red and hot, it is infected. No idea what it is and why you have it, am not a doctor. But had to stop you from talking to yourself!

Ring NHS direct if not sure

I had something very similar years ago on my shin. Huge hot dark red. I showed it to a doctor friend and he was completely stumped. After a few days it went away and has never returned. I put it down to an insect bite.

But I would in an older, wiser incarnation, go and see the doc if you're worried.

i've got summat similar on my knee but it's not hot, just red, tender and a lump... keep forgetting about it, remembering it, convincing myself i have cancer and then forgetting about it again...

Actually, just remembered, dd had a huge large red lump come up on her hand last year. No insect bite,no mark, no bump, nothing to indicate a reason.

Took her to the drs who diagnosed a skin infection (cannot remember the name now) and prescribed antibiotics. He said sometimes bacteria which happily live on teh skin enter through the tiniest of pore into the skin and get attacked by the bodies' immune system' causing the red hot lump.

So get thee to a doctor!

here it is It sounds likely. I had it once years ago (I have Crohn's and it is common apparently with that). I only had one.

Are you preggers? There's a few things that make it more likely - not just flying.

well its still v painful. tried to get dr appt but no joy but she phoned me and i described it and she thinks it is some kind of infection and has given me antibiotics . at diagnosing over the phone!!!
i have a follow up appoint for thurs to see whether it has responded to the ab's.
