Geting worried, over-active thyroid?

For the past few weeks (couple of months maybe) I've been feeling tired, irritable, down and generally washed out. What is worrying me more is that I seem to want to eat CONSTANTLY...at first I put it down to "comfort" eating (with my down mood) but I'm actually losing weight at a oddly fast rate.

At the end of October I was 10st 6lbs. Last wednesday I weighed myself and was 10st 3lbs. Made an apointment for the doctor and when he weighed me I was 10st 1-lb. He then told me I'd lost 2 stone since he last weighed me in March.

I've been totally pigging out these past few days and I've just been on the scales and I'm 9st 11 lbs. I'm 5.10" so also starting to look really thin.

I've been booked in for blood tests but I'm really worried. He mentioned it could be over-active thyroid, anyone shed any light?

Just to add, I seem to be losing about 1 pound in weight per day.

I'm not an expert, but it does sound like over-active thyroid to me - I remember Kate Garraway had the same thing shortly after she had her daughter, lost loads of weight really quickly and initially thought it was just down to running around after baby and working etc. I think it is fairly straightforward to sort out. Hope someone else can shed some (more informed) light! Good luck.

I had an overactive thyroid that went undiagnosed for about 6 months. I lost weight, although not as quickly as you but I suspect it was because I was eating SO much as I was hungry all the time. have you got the shakes/jittery/hot and sweaty/greasy hair and skin/weak nails ? Also I got very bad panic attacks and felt very wired all the time. Dont worry - it is easy treatable and often goes away after a few months of its own accord. The weight also comes back when you start treatment which si good or bad depending on your start point !
