you're probably feeling giddy from the nose op

it's a weird feeling having your sinuses messed about with. It can really affect your balance because it's all around your head innit.

foxinsocks · 15/11/2008 21:06

I meant rather than the anaesthetic

expatinscotland · 15/11/2008 21:07

although, i was watching 'trauma' last night and the anaesthetist said a patient will tend to wake up in the same state they went to sleep in. so when they get a patient who was in a violent fracas and put under as a result of injuries, they were angry when they went to sleep and tend to wake up combative.

but, as she said, 'there's nowhere you can't get with a 16 gauge needle' .

all my experiences with GA, however, have been after i've been given a nice pre-op and am all happy and floating and trippy when i went out.

southeastastra · 15/11/2008 21:09

when i wake up i can never sleep, i waffle on and want to get dressed and go home

that's what's probably making me dizzy them fox, didn't occur to me!

i was the last on the list so was panicky when they put me out, i was worried they'd cancel me and send me home

i got up after one GA and did a whole bunch of stuff - got dressed, but on makeup , made myself a cup of tea.

until the nurse caught me at it and my bp was super high and the anaesthetist came back in and put something in my drip and i was soon resting in my bed.

DisasterArea · 15/11/2008 21:16

i had emergency surgey 7 years ago. was out for about 5 hours and really don't think i ever recovered. not sure how many of my brain cells were fried.
is true i was paniced, thrashing and thought i was dying when they put me under and i came around feeling the same. at least after they managed to bring me around, me listenin to the paniced conversations while wondering if i was dying.
so may have been the circumstances, may have been the anaesthetic but am much stupider now than i was before.

what happened to you da?

I feel suicidal for about 2 days afterwards. Last time I had one they found me wandering down the road in my theatre gown (and nothing else) howling. I think this is not a normal reaction though

NorbertDentressangle · 15/11/2008 21:35

at some of these reactions to GA.

I'm like Expat in that I quite like GAs -that feeling as you drift off and can't fight it, then when you're vaguely aware of coming round/voices etc but can drift off again endlessly. All quit.e surreal but enjoyable
