Oh your poor DS

DH is an eye surgeon - he says irrigate, irrigate, irrigate - get a bottle of water and pour it on. Could also try cleaning the lower lid with a cotton bud if you're brave. Basically he will keep rubbing for a while but if he doesn't settle tonight or is still rubbing in the morning you'll have to head off to A&E I'm afraid. Moorfields if you're in London. HTH.

Hold the eye lids apart with one hand whilst pouring water across the eye with the other. If he tips his head sideways so that the water won;t run into the other. Won;t be easy with a little one though. It may be that by rubbing, he has scratched the surface.

You do need to use a lot of water to get things out of eyes. If he's settled, I'd tend to leave it - it might work its way out naturally but see how it is in the morning

Agree with Whizzz. If he's settled that should be a good sign. Leave him be, sleep well and try not to worry
