Armpit / Breast lumps

I've looked in the history and found that the problem I've got at the moment is not uncommon but wouldn't mind a bit of moral support as I have a mamogram booked for next week (I think this will be the longest 7 days!)

These are the facts...:

I was put on the pill (Cerazette which is a progesterone only pill) for three months for a gynae issue. I finished the three months at the end of September.

I had a cold virus just after this time which completely exhausted me, the week after, I found a lump in my right armpit. After 2 days it was gone, to be replaced by one in my left armpit which again disappeared as soon as it came up. About a week later I had one in my right armpit again at which point I went to the docs but because it disappeared before she could feel / see it so she said all was ok and asked if I checked my breasts - which I do.

From this lumpy time, my boobs (both) felt heavy and the armpit lumps, when they appeared, were painful (it actually felt a bit like the beginning of mastitis, with a bit of a 'let down' sensation...) Then last week, my right boob felt quite uncomfortable, especially, dare I say it, the nipple! So that night in the bath I prodded and found a large lump (right lateral area) - it reminded me of a fat 2p piece. DH confirmed that indeed it was a lump so I saw the doctor on Monday 3rd.

He said that the lump did not feel suspicious but as is routine, he would arrange a mamogram. Obviously I'd done a bit of surfing the night before and come up with what I hoped it would be - a Fibroadonoma - indeed the doctor mentioned that it could be this...

This lump is still there but has shrunk considerably. And the uncomfortable sensation has more of less diminished in the left boob and has reduced in the right one, but there's still discomfort on the right lateral side of my right boob, reaching a little into my armpit.

I'm working this afternoon so won't be online for a while but I'm hoping to hear your views / experiences...

Might be a blocked milk duct?, I never knew until I had one that the lumps can appear in armpits! I could sort of hold onto it and wiggle it about IYKWIM! Are you breastfeeding or recently stopped?

You do also have glands (lymph?) under armpits that swell when there's a viral infection present.I remember having flu, and having really sore swollen armpits.
Good Luck

Thanks Wisp. It's been 6 years since I breastfed but I know that mastitis is still a possibility...

Mamogram on Friday. My friend's coming with me. Roll on next week. It's the not knowing that's the worst...

Oatcake - I think the key may be that you've had a viral infection. Quite often after a severe viral infection your lymph glands react and swell. It can take six weeks for them to go down. You may well find if you take ibuprofen they go down very quickly. But you are right to get it checked.

The problem with Google is that it lists every sodding thing that it could be, but in most cases the simplest explanation is normally right.

Good luck - perhaps we'll end up at the same breast clinic.

Incidentally take two painkillers before you go to the breast clinic - mammagrams are bloody painful.

LOL! thanks for the advice re painkillers before mamogram!

I was thinking viral (for the armpit lumps) but the breast lump, well I was thinking hormonal as I've been messing with mine because I was on the pill for 3 months.

Never again. I'll stick to my cap from now on!
