First smear test after childbirth

I got a letter today asking me to come for a smear test as it's now due. Ds is 5 months old and so far I haven't had a period, but the letter asks you to come midcycle. Do I wait til they are back to normal? I want to get it done, but don't want to psyche myself up for it (find internals quite traumatic since dd's birth) only to be told to go back a different day. wwyd?

Yes, you need to wait til after at least 1st period. Also you could ask them to use the 'virgin' speculum first time, its much smaller and much less uncomfortable.
